I forced myself to look at him and commanded my body to behave even though it wanted one thing and one thing only.
To ravish him.
“No. It’s not that. I just…hope you know I can’t afford to pay anyone full time…yet,” I said, and it took all my self-control to sound normal.
“That’s fine,” he sighed. “Beats sitting around doing nothing.”
“Yeah, besides, he’s got us. That’s what support networks are for, right?” Autumn said.
His gaze wavered for a second as he glanced at his sister and his lips parted, but it only lasted a second before he went back to staring at me and alighting my whole world.
Was that surprising to him? That his sister said he had a support network? Was he not used to having one? Or was their relationship rocky?
I knew very little about Parker since Autumn didn’t know much herself. In fact, the only thing I knew about him was that his wife had divorced him.
Which means he’ssooostraight, so put your tongue away, Hwan!
“Ah…of course. Exactly. I mean, I’ve got food and drinks to spare as well,” I said, pointing at the counter.
He gave everything a once-over with a raised eyebrow but didn’t say anything.
God, he was going to be a tough nut to crack, wasn’t he?
There was a flutter in my stomach, and I tried to push it away. Why did the prospect excite me? Since when did I have a thing for big grumpy men?
I mean, he was sexy and all, but damn it, the last thing I needed was to spin this so out of control in my head that I ended up in love or something stupid like that.
I’msonot doing the whole falling in love with a straight guy thing again. Never again!
“Cool. So…nice to meet you, Parker,” I said, reaching out a shaky hand to him.
He stared at it for a moment too long. I half expected him to grab and kiss it, but that was probably the crazy side of me.
So, of course, he didn’t. He just took it and shook it, and that was that.
“Yeah,” he said.
Of course, my entire soul jumped out of my skin at the touch.
Jesus, Hwan. You thirsty, girl!I need to get laid before I jump the poor man.
“This is Hwan,” Autumn said with pursed lips. “Since you’re too rude to ask.”
Parker just rolled his eyes without turning away from me.
I bit down a smile and decided it was high time to compose myself.
Enough thirsting, enough pining. It was time to get to work.
“Right, thank you for bringing him over, guys. You can leave him here. He’s in safe hands,” I said.
Autumn laughed. Before they left, I made both of them Wyatt’s favorite ube taro milk tea with lychee popping boba. It might have taken a few days, but I’d won him over on bubble tea, even if it didn’t have any alcohol.
When we were alone, I stepped back and looked at his chest, trying really hard not to let my mind wander off to all the things I wanted to do to that body. Or let him do to me.
“What?” he asked.
“One second,” I said and went to the store room. I returned moments later with the largest shirt I could find.
