“Is this place yours?” Luke marveled.

“It belongs to my family. We come here on holidays every summer, or to our home in Malta. We’re too easily recognizable in Elysia, so this is as close to home as we can get,” I explained.

“So we have this house to ourselves for the weekend?” he asked.

The car stopped, and I nodded as I opened the door to let myself out.

“Take the rest of the afternoon off, Nikolas. We’ll leave for the gala at seven, so you have plenty of time to relax,” I said to my driver, and he bowed before leaving Luke and me alone.

I motioned for Luke to follow the path up to the main house, and he walked ahead of me, leaving me ample space to admire his assets.

“This is a beautiful house,” he said once we were inside.

The ground floor was all open plan with colonnades spread across, sectioning off the living room from the kitchen, the dining room from the reading nook.

There was a staircase on either side leading to the many bedrooms upstairs, but Luke tiptoed all the way into the living room. One side of the house, the one facing the Mediterranean Sea, was entirely made of floor-to-ceiling windows and gave a view of the infinity pool and the beach beyond it.

“You make it even more beautiful,” I said.

He turned with a wide grin on his face and danced closer to me, wrapping his arms around my neck.

“You need to stop saying such sweet, romantic things, or we’ll both be in danger,” he said.

“In danger? In danger of what?” I asked and swayed from side to side, following the quiet dance Luke had started.

“In danger of falling in love,” he replied under his breath.

I put my hands on his hips and took a deep breath, his eyes reflecting the sun and sky from outside, and I knew right there, right then.

“I’m afraid it’s too late,” I said and covered his shock with my mouth, finally taking a taste of him like I’ve been wanting to do this whole time.

Luke

He said he was falling in love, didn't he? He really had just said that he was falling in love. Of course he did. We were moving at such a fast pace, whywouldn'the tell me he was falling in love with me?

I would be terrified at the realization if I wasn't falling in love with him, also.

No, actually, Iwasterrified. Terrified because even though I was falling for him, this was not meant to last.

I was just making it harder on myself for when this was going to end.

But hey, I guess when I agreed to this fling, I agreed to everything that came with it. Even the bad parts. Even the parts that ended with my heart broken.

We spent the rest of the day sunbathing by the poolside and making sweet love to each other inside the pool, all the while trying to forget about it. To put my mind at ease.

Later that day, he took me upstairs to one of the bedrooms, and I fully expected him to seduce me again, but instead, there was yet another surprise waiting for me.

A full-blown tuxedo.

An expensive one, at that, too.

“It’s tailored to you,” he said when I was still too shocked for words.

I had no clue how he had found out my measurements and when on earth he’d arranged everything. He was like a surprise ninja. A royal surprise ninja.

I choked up a laugh at the thought and decided to jump into the shower.
