“I-I’m…” I started but couldn’t finish.

Oh to hell with it. This was a dream, anyway.

“I love you, too, August,” I said.

Before I could even react, August’s lips were on mine, reunited. They reignited the goosebumps across my body, and their taste made me breathless.

This was real. I wasn't dreaming. I wasn't still in bed.

I was in my classroom, and so was August.

“Ewww, kissing is so gross,” Jeremy groaned, and the laugh that came out of me made me pull away from our chaste kiss.

“Hey, talk to me in five years,” I told Jeremy, and his dark eyes looked down at his desk.

“Will you…” August said, and I turned back to face him.

Holy crap, he was here. Fisayo was right. Time and life had a way of surprising you.

Unless, of course, she’d engineered this whole visit, but nonetheless…

“Will I what?” I asked, taking his hand in mine.

I’d missed that. I’d missed holding him. Kissing him. This was the August I’d fallen for.

“Will you take me back?” he asked.

I pursed my lips trying to suppress a smile, but I didn’t answer him. Instead, I turned to the classroom.

“What do you think? Should I take him back?” I asked.

The whole classroom shouted in unison, and I glanced at August.

“There’s your answer, I suppose.”

The kids cheered as August kissed the back of my hand again.

“Come with me?” he said.

“I can’t, August. I… I've got a classroom to teach.”

We had so much to talk about, and I didn't think I could wait until the end of the day, but I couldn’t abandon my job.

“I spoke to your principal. She'll take over the class for the rest of the day,” he said.

“Oh.”

Of course he had. And Mrs. Grinch was nothing if not a sucker for a good ol’ romance.

“Oh no. Not Mrs. Grinch,” Tommy groaned.

“I heard that, Tommy,” Mrs. Grinch said, appearing at the door.

Tommy flushed and looked down at his lap.

For some reason, the kids hated Mrs. Grinch. I didn’t know if it was a reaction to her name or if their child’s eyes saw something in her that the adults didn’t. But Grinch had been nothing but kind and understanding with me.

She laughed at Tommy’s reaction before she turned to me.
