“What? No,” he says and puts both of his hands on my shoulders.
They feel good gripping me. They’re warm. They almost feel like a hug.
“Then?”
“I’m doing this all wrong,” he says, wiping his face. My arm feels the sting of his absent hand. “Let me start over.”
I nod and he takes a step back, but still burning me with his grey eyes. I have to keep reminding myself I can’t get lost in them. Not anymore.
“I’m sorry for being so hard on you. I-I felt betrayed. I felt cheated. I didn’t even sit for a second to think what it was like on your side. I just acted out. But I realized… even after all of this… I’m still in love with you.”
He said it again, didn’t he?
“I love you. Isaac,” he says and takes a step forward again.
Is this really happening? Am I really hearing these words? For real?
“God, it feels weird to… to call you by your name.” He smiles. “Will you… will you give me another chance?”
He’s askingmefor another chance? After the wayItreated him? After whatI’vedone?
“The question is ifyouwill,” I tell him.
He smirks. “It’s why I’m here, isn’t it?”
Right. Heishere. He’s not on a plane halfway across the Atlantic. He’s here. On my porch. Telling me he loves me.
What is wrong with me?
Wake up Isaac. Seize the moment. Get your man.
“You mean it?” I ask.
“I mean it.”
His hands cup my face, his skin on mine giving me goosebumps that I feel all the way to my toes.
I can hardly breathe or function standing so close to him, without a hood, without a screen between us. Just him and I.
But I need to make sure I understand.
“You mean what exactly? Wh-what do you want… from me?”
Ezra licks his lower lip and his cheeks redden. He leans and right before he kisses me he whispers:
“Everything.”
I still can’t move when his lips meet mine again, but for a different reason. His lips, his tongue lashes at me, but it’s not that which shocks me to my core.
It’s his word.
He wants everything. I hope I’m not misunderstanding here.
I’m not misunderstanding. His body is doing all the talking to confirm it.
He wants to be with me.
My hands snap to life and reach behind him to rest on his shoulder blades. His hands grip my face closer, caressing the peaks of my cheeks. His taste is so welcome in my mouth that I can feel my muscles relax at the same time as my body alights with need. For him.
