“I’m sorry,” I said.
Rohan rubbed my back. “Don’t worry. Better out than in. Hopefully you’ll feel better soon.”
He tried to get me to sit down and drink more water, but I really needed to empty the pouch before it burst and I made a bigger, grosser mess.
I stumbled to the bathroom, grateful he had no customers to see me in this state, and took care of the bag and relieved myself while I was there, too. Thankfully, no further messes were made.
“Oh my God, what the hell, Charlie?” Benji cried out from the door as soon as I came out of the restroom. He ran over to me, attacking me with his arms before I knew what was even going on.
“Look at the state of you. We need to get you home. ASAP,” he said.
I just pulled Benji back in my arms and closed my eyes. Things would get better now he was here. He knew how to take care of me.
“You let him get drunk?” I heard Luke ask.
“He’s got a broken heart, dude. What was I supposed to do?” Rohan said.
“We’ll talk about this later,” Luke grumbled, and I opened my eyes, pushing Benji off me.
“Don’t be mad at him. It was my fault,” I said to Luke.
I didn’t know what was going through Luke’s head, but if there was even the slightest chance those two would hit it off in more than just a hook-up kind of way, I didn’t want to be the rift that pulled them further apart.
“It’s my fault, too. I kept serving you,” Rohan said, deflated.
“I can beverydemanding,” I said to him.
Not sure why I didn’t say it to Luke. I was too drunk. I needed to get out of here and into bed.
“You can say that again,” Benji muttered. “Come on. We need to get you home. Right, Luke?”
Luke nodded and helped Benji carry me outside to Luke’s car.
One moment we were idle, the next we were moving, and then we were back home. I must have passed out in the car. I really needed to sleep this booze off.
Luke opened my door, and Benji’s hands were all over me in a second, helping me out of the car. But I was bigger and heavier than Benji, so I stumbled and ended up with my back against the side of the trunk and Benji pinned on me.
“Everything is spinning again,” I said, and it sounded way too high-pitched for my voice.
“Well, that should teach you to drink your weight in beer.” Benji laughed.
“Whatever,” I mocked him.
“Come on, you two. Stop squabbling and let’s get you inside,” Luke said.
Benji pushed himself off me and put his arm around my shoulder, leading me up the porch and into the house.
“Charlie? What happened?” Yaya asked as soon as we were inside.
Mel was standing next to her, biting her nails.
“Nothing,” I said with a straight face.
“Why is Adam spending the night with another man in Mel’s? What happened?” she insisted.
“Just drop it, Yaya. Now’s not the time,” Luke said.
“Hi, Mrs. Marina,” Benji said.
