“I’m into super geeks and crap. Is that how you talk about me?” Kyle crossed his arms.
“You are? Are you a Cursed Hearts fan as well, or are you too young for that?” I asked.
“Cursed what?” Kyle asked.
“Too young,” Charlie and Luke said at the same time, both looking at me.
“I may be young, but I’m the smartest person in this room, thank you very much,” Kyle said with a sass that I admired.
Charlie coughed.
“Sans the doctor, of course,” he added. Charlie coughed again. “What? You’re a nurse. I’m still smarter than you.”
Charlie gasped, and Kyle laughed out loud.
“God, messing with your family is so much fun,” he said to Andy.
Andy offered him a smirk and took a sip of his beer.
“So… Doc. Why did you leave Chicago?” Kyle asked when everyone relaxed again and didn’t look on the verge of murdering him.
Justin came to mind straight away. I hadn’t thought of him in a few days. It was starting to get easier not thinking about him. Why would I when I had such an amazing man in my life that completed me far more than Justin ever did. Or anyone else, for that matter.
“A change of scenery. I guess. I just need something new in my life,” I said.
It wasn’t a lie. I did need something to change in my miserable life. I needed an escape from the nightmare I’d been going through the last few years.
I turned to Charlie, his eyes full of hope and wonder, and I couldn’t help but fall a little more in love with him. He’d given me everything I’d been looking for since I was a young man, and he didn’t even know it.
Yeah. His face definitely looked like my happily ever after. Just like that fortune cookie had said on the night we first met.
Maybe it couldn’t be helped and I’d been falling for him ever since.

“So now you’re dating Dr. Becker’s nephew, are you? Why did you not tell your yaya? Why did I have to find out from my girlfriends?” Yaya asked from the door as I was getting ready.
I looked at her through the mirror and gave her a side-eye.
“Excuse me for wanting to keep my personal life… ya know. Personal,” I said.
Yaya blew raspberries and walked into the room.
“Personal? What personal? We’re your family. What’s more personal than that?”
“Still doesn’t mean I get to tell you who I’m sleeping with.”
“But you don’t mind the whole town knowing?” she retaliated.
“Well, I can’t exactly control the grapevine, can I?”
Yaya dismissed my comment with a wave and raised an eyebrow.
“That’s an… interesting getup for a Valentine’s Day dinner,” she said.
I looked at my reflection and turned to the side. I had to admit, my butt looked fucking awesome in these tight leather pants. The leather jacket puffed up my torso and squared my shoulders, making me look bigger than I was.
