Melody eyed Justin with heavy distaste and then glanced at me, worry written across her face.

“Sure, okay,” she said, staring at me.

Oh, what she must think of me now? What a doctor I was! I couldn’t even open my mouth and get rid of this ass.

And what a boyfriend to Charlie!

If it wasn’t before, then my life was officially ruined now.

Twenty-Three

Charlie

“Oh, honey,” Rohan said for what felt like the hundredth time that day.

When I woke up in the morning, I didn’t want to deal with all the questions from the family, so Luke snuck me out and we ended up in the Beer Residency. Apparently, Rohan started work early on Sundays. The fucking creep.

Was it terrible that I’d started drinking at ten in the morning? I wasn’t an alcoholic or anything, and usually the smell would turn my stomach before five in the evening, but other than some cheap instant coffee, that was the only thing he had in his bar.

Okay, he also had sodas, but I was pretending like that wasn’t true.

I didn’t know what I expected when I woke up in the morning, but I didn’t expect the pain and dread in my body to be worse than it had been the night before.

“Rohan, can you do me a favor... and... shut up? Please?” I used my kindest voice.

And yeah, okay, I hiccupped, too. But whatever. There was no one around to judge me.

“Hey!” Rohan exclaimed and placed his hands on his hips. “No more beer for you.”

I shrugged.

“I should probably stop, anyway,” I said. “I don’t think my brother would appreciate you getting his brother drunk. Never mind the fact I’m a lightweight since my operation.”

“Tell your brother to tell his brother to stop being so demanding then.” Rohan raised an eyebrow, and only when I surrendered did he serve me a glass of water.

“I’d watch it with that attitude, mister, or no more D from Luke,” I said.

I was hugging the glass. Okay. And my pouch was ballooning on my stomach, so I better get up and empty it.

But damn it if I could stand up.

“Huh! Please. As if you control his D. And I can find D if I want D. Who do you think you are that you think I can’t get the D? Okay, I’ll stop saying D now. Also, you talking about your brother’s D is weird, dude.”

“I only said… Oh, I don’t know what I was saying.”

I really needed to get up. I put the glass down and tried to. The room spun like I was on a rollercoaster, so I fell, tumbling back on the chair.

“Woah, big guy. Do you need a hand?” Rohan asked, coming to my side.

“Unless you’re willing to empty my bag, I don’t think so,” I said.

Rohan looked at me with a frown.

“Do you mean hold your D while you pee? Because that’s also weird, dude,” he said.

My stomach trembled, and the laughter climbed up and out of my mouth. Along with the sick.

Great.
