I offered him my hand and helped him up. When he was back on his feet, he appeared to be the same Adam I’d experienced all day. The strong, independent, decisive Dr. Kravitz. Not the delicate, vulnerable man he’d been crouched on the floor.

“I’m sorry,” I said. “I crossed a line.”

He shook his head and cleared his throat.

“It’s okay. We both w-were… we were under duress.”

“So… this isn’t going to be awkward? Working with me?” I asked.

“No more awkward than you working with me,” he said, hands in pockets.

“We’re agreed then?”

“Huh?”

“We keep it professional?” I said.

“Of course,” he replied and took one hand out to shake mine.

Because that wasn’t awkward.

“Great,” I said. “Do you… do you need a ride home, Dr. Kravitz?”

“I’m okay. I’ve got my uncle’s car. Thanks for the offer, though, Charlie,” he replied and opened the office door.

I followed him out of the room and zipped my windbreaker back up.

“You might want to have a look around your house in case you need to shelter again. Also, there’s a guide on the state website on dealing with storms and hurricanes,” I said and opened the front door.

“Will do. Thanks,” he said. “See you tomorrow.”

I offered him my most professional smile I could muster under the circumstances and ran off to my car.

Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.

How was I supposed to keep it professional when I could still feel the ghost of his kiss on my lips and when the mere thought of his hardness in my hand made me horny?

“Good job on screwing things up, Charlie,” I told myself as I reversed out of my parking spot. “And on your first day, too. That must be a world record.”

I could do this. I could. I could be professional and forget that Adam was near damn perfect for me.

I could.

Or I could keep lying to myself until I had to get out of here and go back to Detroit.

Easy peasy. Just six months of lusting after Adam were going to go by innotime.

Right?

“Okay, folx, marathon starts in 10 minutes. Get your popcorn, chips, or chocolate, and all systems are a-go at :00,” I messaged my Discord group called “Heart United.”

It had been a busy day at work, and I could just about keep my eyes open, but it wasn’t anything I wasn’t used to. As soon as the first episode started, I wouldn’t be able to sleep until I finished the run.

Tonight, we were doing a marathon of the demon storyline. Eight kickass episodes, six hours of never-ending action, and mouthwatering romance.
