“Yeah. In the studio. I’m helping them with their painting,” I say.

“Oh, I wanna see,” he says.

“Oh my God, babe,” I say and go up to him and whisper, “They painted a threesome scene.”

“Okay, now I definitely want to see,” he says.

“Nope. Not happening. They’re in the zone, so no interrupting,” I say.

“Please,” he keeps going.

I sigh and pass them a second cup.

“Fine. You can take them their coffee. But no lingering. In and out real quick,” I tell him.

“That’s what he said.” Carter laughs and trots all the way to the studio.

I follow behind and stand by the door as Carter sneaks up on Tru and kisses the back of their neck.

“Hey you, pretty thing,” he says.

“Hey.” Tru turns around and smiles, giving Carter a peck on the lips. “Are you done for the day?”

“Indeed,” he says.

“What are you doing for the rest of the afternoon?”

Carter shrugs and passes them the cup.

“You, I was hoping,” he says, and Tru chokes on their coffee.

I dry-cough and both of them turn to look at me.

“I said no distractions. We’re working,” I tell Carter.

He pulls a face and turns to Tru who flutters their lashes apologetically.

“Fine. I’ll be in my room. Moping. And playing DAW,” he says and walks up to me and out of the room with his neck all straight and his chin up high, pouting like no one’s business.

“Happy hunting,” I tell him and slap his butt as he walks away from me. “Right. Where were we?”

Tru sips their coffee and glances at their drawing. I approach them and look at their detailed sketch.

“Nice. What colors are you going for?”

“I was so insistent on making this dark and moody, but I don’t know… now that I’m working on a new canvas, I want to play with purple and blue for the background and go with a bit of overexposure on the skin,” they say.

“I can see it,” I say.

“Do you want to help me prime it before I start?”

“It’s already primed. You can jump straight into it,” I tell them.

“Cool. Want to help me pick the colors then?”

“It’d be my pleasure,” I say and open the drawers of the units next to the easel that houses all the paints I’ve got.

Tru grabs a palette and starts making different mixes and testing them on the top corner of the canvas.
