“I can be slutty in this life if you want me to.” I trail my finger across his chest and down to his stomach.
“Please, honey, when have younotbeen slutty?” he says, and in retaliation, I grope his balls, and his eyes pop. “Cheeky fucker.”
We kiss again, but we’re still too exhausted to go for another round. Not that it’s any surprise with the amount of work we did back at Mama Hadlee’s. If we weren’t cooking, we were cleaning, and if we weren’t cleaning, we were working at the farm. There’s no such thing as a lazy day for Mama Hadlee.
“I’ll tell the school. I promise. First thing tomorrow,” I tell him. “Will you come with me?”
“Are you sure?” he asks.
“What? Of telling the whole world about you? I’ve never been more sure of anything else my entire life.”
“Okay, then.”
“And you’re going to move into this room,” I add.
“It’s not like I’ve slept in my own bed for months, but okay,” Beau laughs.
Then he turns all serious.
“Does that mean I’m officially fired?” I open my mouth to answer, but I don’t get a chance. “We are not hiring another au pair! And any babysitters need to be approved by me. No hot guys.”
“What about Tru?”
“I love Tru, but they can get their own daddy. I ain’t sharing mine.”
I laugh out loud. “You know that it doesn’t matter anyway, right? I only have eyes for you.”
“Good. And that’s the way we’ll keep it, thank you very much.”
He pauses.
“Oh crap.”
“What now?” I ask.
“I need to find a job, don’t I? Maybe For Heaven’s Cake is hiring. Or Espresso Blues, although if they are, my sweet tea addiction will become a real problem.”
I caress his cheek and gaze into his eyes. He’s so fucking adorable it’s painful.
“You don’t need a job because you’ll be busy running your own business.”
“Yeah, but what if it doesn’t work? And these things take time to take off. What am I going to do until then?”
“Baby Beau, that’s why you got me. And it will work. Trust me.”
“I do,” he says.
“Then it’s all sorted,” I say, and it feels strange but so serene to have everything I need in my life.
A beautiful daughter. A handsome man. And a happy life together.
