“Believe it or not, she came for an interview,” I say, and he huffs.

“No way. What for?”

“Teaching assistant. It was when I first became a professor. She was a junior looking to make some extra cash. She was supposed to take on small, mindless tasks I didn’t have the time to handle. Needless to say, she was running my life before I knew it. Helped me with presentations for investment meetings. Got me to open up when I had my heartbroken. And we became friends.”

“Aww,” he drawls, and bats his lashes, although I’m not sure he knows he’s doing it. “So, basically, anyone you interview is at risk of becoming part of your life.”

“Umm, I’ve interviewed hundreds of people. Dolly is the only one who became a good friend,” I defend myself.

“I was just kidding,” he laughs.

“Besides, I would hardly call it a risk of becoming attached to me,” I continue.

“Don’t worry, Professor,” Beau says, and now he’s the one holding my hand. “It’s a nice risk to take.”

I lean closer to him and kiss him right on the lips. But as he’s about to break the kiss, I put my hand on his neck and deepen it until both our breaths run rugged.

“Good. Because I’m willing to take the risk if you are,” I tell him when we pull apart.

Beau smirks.

“You keep kissing me like that, I’ll marry you right here, right now,” he says.

And boy do I like the sound of that.
