“You think what?” I ask her, and switch the engine off.
“I think it’s better if you don’t act on it. No. Let me correct that,” she says and readjusts on the seat, so her entire body is facing me. “I forbid you doing anything inappropriate with Beau. It risks your professional integrity and his job. And Elsie needs stability with our situation at the moment. So it’s best you keep it in your pants where Beau is concerned.”
I sigh. Dolly smirks and winks at me before getting out of the car.
I will not allow myself to fall into the trap of my own stubbornness. I will not. Just because I hate being told what to do doesn’t mean I have to make my feelings for Beau known. Just because Dolly forbade me from doing anything with Beau doesn’t mean I have to just to spite her.
She doesn’t mean it. She’s just trying to challenge me. I can’t let her get to me.
