“Enjoying the view?” she asks playfully.

Flashing a smile, I stroll over to her. “Didn’t know you wore glasses.”

Her eyes lift to mine. “Yeah. My eyes aren’t too bad, so I can see to walk around and stuff, but any tasks that require precision or focus I need my contacts or glasses. And after several days of nonstop contacts, my eyes need a break.”

“I like them. They’re giving hot librarian vibes.”

She rolls her eyes. “That’s such a cliché. It’s either librarian or teacher or the not popular girl who takes her glasses off and straightens her hair, then magically becomes super hot.”

Leaning down, I brush my finger along her jaw. “Fine. You look studious. Professional. Like a hot as fuck boss babe.”

She looks up at me, matching my smirk. “You prefer having a boss babe to take the lead? Or do you like to take things into your own hands?”

I swear her eyes dart to the bathroom door when she says that.

Does she know what I did in there?

 Is she asking me?

I lean down, my lips grazing her cheek as I whisper, “I’ll take either one.”

She lets out a shuddery breath, her eyes locking on mine again as I pull away.

Her hot gaze burns into me as I smile and round the bed, grabbing my phone off the bedside table and heading for the door.

But before I leave, I turn back to her. She’s still looking at me. And I can’t help myself.

“By the way, wifey, if you ever need any help getting off, feel free to askyour husband.”

I watch her just long enough to see her eyes widen in surprise, though it’s impossible to miss the desire dancing in them as well.

I’m roasting as I walk out of her room, consumed by the fire building between us. Now I’m hoping Jade will leap into the flames with me.

Metaphorically. Because the air conditioner will be fixed today. Permanently. Hopefully, Jade won’t kill me when she finds out why.

 CHAPTER EIGHTEEN

 JADE

 I can’t stop thinkingabout Justin.

 I am not okay.

By the way, wifey, if you ever need any help getting off, feel free to ask your husband.

I can’t believe he actually said those words. Right to my face. With that smolder thing he does with his eyes.

“Your blood pressure is a little elevated today. Are you feeling okay?”

My eyes dart to the nurse. Whoops. Probably shouldn’t be getting all hot and bothered while she’s taking my blood pressure.

 “Is it high?”

“Higher than your normal, but still in the optimal range.”

I let out a breath, then put on a smile. “I’m a little stressed. Our air conditioner broke yesterday, and I’m hoping the repair person can get it fixed today. I don’t do well with heat.”

She waves a hand. “Say no more. That would stress me out too.”
