But he hadn’t initiated it either, and I had to wonder . . . would he still have wanted it if I hadn’t taken the lead?
Now we had the chance for a do-over, an opportunity to do things right, and I couldn’t let it be another spur-of-the-moment decision.
A moment he’d regret.
I hesitated, studying him. I searched Rev’s face for something, anything that told me this was what he wanted. ThatIwas what he wanted.
Because along the way, Rev had wormed his way under my skin like a parasite. Like a fever I couldn’t shift. He’d always be a pain in my ass, but it turned out that I liked it. Liked the way he pushed me, fighting back when my ego got the best of me.
He wasn’t a thorn in my side, he was something more, and I needed to know he felt the same.
Rev tightened his grip on my jacket, his eyes locking with mine. Within them, the glittering particles swirled, certain and unshakable. The tension wound tight in my chest loosened, unravelling thread by thread, until the weight of the moment settled heavy and undeniable between us.
And with a low growl, he whispered, “Kiss me, Kai.”
So I did.
Once again, we came together in a clash of lips and teeth, desperation seeping from our pores as we fought to devour one another. Rev’s hands slid up to my shoulders, to my neck, fingers pressing against my pulse, like he wanted to feel the rapid-fire beat of my heart.
I slipped a hand from the wall and into his hair, fingers tangling as I pulled the messy bun loose, letting it tumble in waves past his shoulders. My fingertips brushed against his scalp, and his chest vibrated with a purr-like sound. But with a light tug on the strands, it morphed into a moan that set me aflame.
I pulled Rev’s head back, changing the angle so I could kiss him deeper. Our tongues clashed, battling for dominance, just like we did so often on the track. I could taste the sharp tang of the martinis he’d drunk, a mix of briny olive and the crisp bite of gin.
When I pulled back, Rev chased my mouth with a whimper, so I took his bottom lip between my teeth. With a hard bite, I sucked it into my mouth, and Rev moaned, loud and wanton. His body slumped against my chest, the bulge in his trousers pressing against my own.
Something squeezed my thigh, and when I broke the kiss to look down, I saw his tail wrapped around my limb, tugging me even closer. The shift brought our bodies flush, and the friction between us sent a spark through me, igniting every nerve.
“Fuck,” I hissed, resting my forehead against his.
I rolled my hips, and Rev whined, his mouth hanging open.
“Kai,” he gasped, panting breaths tickling my lips.
His ears twitched, the markings on his skin pulsing with a delicious shade of rosy pink. Hooded eyes gazed up at me, lips swollen, jaw slack as his chest heaved. His hair was loose and knotty, a messy dark halo that contradicted the pale complexion of his pearlescent skin.
A single kiss had wrecked Rev, and he’d never looked more gorgeous.
A door slammed down the hall, reminding us we were dry-humping in a public corridor.
“Come with me.”
I stepped back, holding out my hand. Rev nodded, taking it without hesitation. Dipping down to grab his award, I caught the way he diverted his attention from my ass, and I winked. “Like what you see, rookie?”
“Fuck off, Mercer,” he grumbled, but his lips curled in a shy smile.
After tugging him down the hall, I released him upon arriving in the lobby. Not that it mattered. Anyone with a single brain cell could look at us and know what we were up to. Our swollen lips, flushed cheeks, and obvious boners were a dead giveaway.
But holding hands was intimate, and would invite questions neither of us were ready to answer.
Rev followed me to the lift, and I pressed the button to take us to my floor. His eyes stayed glued to the tiled floor, while I watched the numbers tick down on the screen beside the doors.
From the corner of my eye, I spotted Jax leaving the bathroom to the left of the reception desk. His curls were wild, like someone had tugged on them, and the shirt he’d ironed within an inch of its life was a mess—half untucked, buttons misaligned, and hanging out of his trousers like he’d dressed in a rush.
I was about to call his name, forgetting I was trying to keep both Rev and myself unnoticed, but the bathroom door opened again, and who should stroll out in a similar state but Valen fucking Dray.
Yeah . . . no way I was touching that with a ten-foot pole.
When the lift opened, Rev and I stepped inside. I ignored the two supposed mortal enemies crossing the lobby, each of them looking freshly fucked.
