He reached out and tapped my screen. It flipped the book to the next page, and I batted his hand away.

“A book.”

“Wow, that was so enlightening,” he deadpanned. “You should be a life coach with the wise words that come out of your mouth.”

I raised an eyebrow. “I prefer things that comeinmy mouth.”

Kai blushed and cleared his throat, and I snickered as he shuffled around to adjust himself. I had no doubt he was thinking of the night before, how he’d fucked my mouth while my head hung over the edge of the bed.

Except now, so was I, and it took everything in me not to squirm like he was.

“Come on,” he croaked. “Tell me what you’re reading.”

I sighed as if he was annoying me, but I was just as grateful for the distraction.

“It’s a gay romance about two best friends. One’s a werewolf, and the other is a wolf shifter. They’re in love, but the werewolf doesn’t realise it yet.”

“What’s a werewolf?” he asked.

“A guy who turns into a wolf.”

“And what’s a wolf shifter?”

“A guy who turns into a wolf.”

“So . . .” His head tilted to one side, thinking about it. “What’s the difference between a werewolf and a wolf shifter?”

“Read it and find out,” I replied, leaning in to flick him on the knee.

Kai closed the distance, his sunglasses slipping down his nose. “I could think of something a lot more fun we could do.”

My cock perked up, but I couldn’t have him thinking I’d give in so easily. I wouldn’t be me if I let Kai get what he wanted right away, just because he asked.

I pursed my lips and hummed. “I’m not sure I’m in the mood.”

He brushed his nose against mine, breath warm against my cold lips. “I could get you in the mood, Revvy. I know all your hotspots.”

I realised it might look like we were kissing, right here on the icy grass of the paddock. The gap between our mouths was small, and if I pushed forward just a smidge, they would meet. If anyone looked this way, it’d be clear that something was happening . . . something between us.

We hadn’t told anyone what was going on. Hadn’t discussed it. It was so new, so fragile, that we were happy keeping it between ourselves.

Only Jax gave the slightest inkling that he knew. He never said it outright, but based on the occasional wink he sent my way, I was sure he’d guessed.

“My book’s pretty good,” I replied.

“I promise what I’ve got in mind is better than your book.”

“You’re all talk, starboy.”

Kai winked, standing up far more gracefully than his tall frame should allow. “I suppose I’ll have to show you, then.”

He held out a hand, and I decided I’d teased him enough.

He helped me up, dusting dirt from my ass. It was far more thorough than he needed to be, but I let him have his moment because I liked the feel of his hands on me.

He led me through the paddock, still holding my hand. Our joined hands drew curious looks, but Kai didn’t care, he just marched forward like a man on a mission, dragging me along behind him. His legs were longer than mine, so one step for Kai was about three for me, and I was practically sprinting.

When we stopped in front of a nondescript door, my chest was heaving.
