“We can’t pick up any signal.”
Edvin stared off into the distance then shook his head. “I don’t know. Anything could happen.”
“More bombing?”
“But bombing should have no effect on people hidden in the bunkers. They could still pick up the signal.”
“Yeah, you’re right.”
They didn’t find out much in the last couple of days, only that half of Sweden was affected as was most of Europe.
They had no information from other continents.
Liam turned on the radio one more time. “Let’s give it another try.” He put on the headphones, and spoke into the mic, “Hello? Can anyone hear me?”
Edvin watched expectantly, hoping the look on his friend’s face would change at any moment. A frown formed on Liam’s lips.
“Is there really no one?” Liam tried again. “Come on. Hello?” When he was about to give up, he heard a voice:“Hello?”
Liam tensed. “Hey! Can you hear me?”
“Yeah, barely–”
“That should be enough. Just don’t lose me. Okay?” Liam laughed, feeling relieved. Edvin grabbed another pair of headphones.
“I’ll try not to lose you.”
“Is that you, Lucas?” Edvin asked.
“It’s me.”
“Do you have any news?”
“Just that we detected higher radiation levels.”
“Yeah, no shit,” Liam groaned. “When I saw the numbers yesterday, I thought I might have a heart attack.”
“Haha, I believe.”
“So, you haven’t heard from any other survivors?” Edvin spoke up again.
“It’s as if we are cut off from the rest of the world. And now I hear from you.”
“We feel like that too,” Liam said. “So, you think there was a new bombing or some different kind of attack?”
“Chances are there was another bombing, because two nukes were dropped on the East.”
“What? Two? They haven’t decided to give up yet?”
“At this point, I don’t think they will stop until they destroy us all.”
“That’s insane.” Liam shook his head.
“Yeah, we–”
Static cracked and the signal broke.
“Lucas… Hello?” Liam shouted into the mic.
