Liam scratched the back of his neck. “There was something actually…”
Lennart glanced at him and raised his eyebrows. “Then tell me. No?” He punched him lightly in the shoulder.
The expression on Liam’s face remained serious. He knotted his eyebrows as he recalled the conversation. “The bunker... that guy Lucas is in. He claimed they went out to see the situation above.”
“Is it already safe to go out?”
“Our radiation detector would disagree. I don’t know why they did it, or if that’s true at all. I think it’s better to wait.”
“They said the radiation levels dropped enough, so they sent two of their people out to examine for a few minutes,” Edvin added.
“Hmm. And some official info?”
“Still nothing.” Liam tapped his fingers on the table with a sigh. “We’ll check later again, but we still didn’t catch any other stations.”
Edvin took a deep breath. “Maybe the attack was greater than we thought. Or… I don’t know.”
Liam pulled his laptop closer to him and clicked on the latest file he had opened. “We’ve searched all the data that we downloaded and saved before the attack, and also a few minutes after. But what actually happened after, we don’t have any information about.”
“We’ll wait,” Lennart stated. “We have enough supplies, so there’s no reason to hurry to go out.”
All three friends got lost in their thoughts. Liam was the first to break the silence, changing the subject. “Are there some plans for the New Year? There’s only two days left.”
Lennart frowned. “Yeah. To survive.”
“Haha, very funny.”
“No, I mean, people can celebrate, but nothing will be organized,” Lennart said with a sigh. “There will be an opportunity to gather at the bar. Drink, eat and that’s it.”
“At least something,” Liam agreed.
Chapter 29
Maya jittered her leg under the table while she waited for someone, anyone, to show up. She was brought into a small room which had only a table and two chairs and a window with opaque glass. No one told her anything; Hugo only escorted her there and left her all by herself.
After waiting for a few minutes, two men entered. One was her boyfriend’s brother, the other she knew only as a guard in the bunker.
“Hello, Maya. How are you feeling?” Lennart asked as he seated himself on the chair in front of her. The other man remained standing behind him, staring at her. It was irritating, but Maya returned her focus to Lennart.
“I feel like shit. Happy?” she smirked.
“No. Why should I be happy?”
“You kept me in that cell for who knows how long, and now you’re going to interrogate me like I’m a criminal. I guess you’re doing this because you like it. Or am I wrong?”

Lennart didn’t let her get to him. He held her gaze for a moment longer, unfazed by her choice of words. When he spokeup, he went straight to the subject: “What did you put in Scarlett’s drink?”
Maya looked at him in disbelief, a frown forming on her face. “Excuse me? What?”
“I have asked you what you put in Scarlet’s drink the night she was killed.”
Maya rested her back against the chair. “Nothing.”
“Are you absolutely sure about that?” Lennart put his elbows on the table, not taking his eyes off her.
“Of course I’m sure.”
