“As far as they could see, only the windows were blown out.”

“Hmm,” Liam hummed thoughtfully. “I think we will wait at least another week or two. Or until we catch a signal and hear news from the authorities. I don’t think the war ended yet.”

“You’re right. It’s better to wait. But we decided to check after the radiation levels dropped a bit.”

“By the way, did you hear any other news or official announcements? We’re still unable to catch the signal from any station.”

“No. We didn’t catch any signal. Except yours.”

“That’s odd.” Liam turned to Edvin.

Edvin raised his eyebrows. “The radiation levels around their bunker have decreased? It’s been just a few days since the bombing.”

“Exactly. That’s what I thought too.” Liam put the microphone away. “The best time to go out after flying nukes is after three to five weeks. Also, we still don’t know when the last nearest bomb fell or if there’s still a threat of bombing.”

“Right!” Edvin nodded. “We shouldn’t take risks.”

“Yeah. It’s better to wait. And also, we need to get in contact with some more reliable sources.”

“I have good news for you,” the doctor stated after he finished the examination.

“Good news?” Ryosuke asked, not sure what to think about such a declaration.

“We can release you today. Your condition is good enough, so you can go back to your place. You can always come back though, but I don’t think it will be necessary. Surround yourself with your family and friends and everything will be okay.” The doctor gave him an encouraging smile.

“So I’m…” Ryosuke began, but trailed off. He realized he didn’t want to go back to his room and share space with his ex-fiancé.

“You can call someone to help you to the room. If you want. I’ll go and sort out the papers in the meantime.”

The doctor left the room and Ryosuke debated with himself about what to do. Should he go to his parents’ room? He didn’t like the idea of sharing a room with them; he thought it was enough that they shared space with Aki. He wondered if there were any spare rooms in the bunker he would have a place to stay. Although he doubted it, he thought it would be a good idea to ask.

Who should I call? Anna or Hugo?

He grabbed his cellphone from the side table and scrolled through the list.

“It’s Anna… Or Hugo,” he muttered to himself. He came across Lennart’s name and paused for a second. His heart picked up the pace, and he scrolled back to dial Hugo’s number.

I have nothing to lose.

The phone rang twice and Ryosuke could hear the older man’s voice.

“Mr. Hansson? I’m sorry for bothering you, but I just wanted to ask you something.”

“Don’t worry. I’m here to help, if I can.”

Ryosuke took a deep breath. “I… I wanted to ask if there are some spare rooms in the bunker?”

“Spare rooms? What would you need a spare room for?”

“I broke off the engagement with my fiancé, so I was wondering if there was at least a small room where I could sleep and keep my things. At least temporary.” Ryosuke decided to be honest.

“No. We don’t have any spare rooms. Every corner in the bunker is in use as far as I know.”

It’s just as I thought.Ryosuke thought to himself disappointed.

“Alright. Thank you. I just wanted to check if–”
