He finally pressed hard enough to pierce through his vein and groaned when he felt sharp pain shoot through his arm.

Shit! This hurts like hell.

The blood began to leak slowly and soak the light gray blanket, turning it crimson under its flow.

Ryosuke looked at his blood leaving his body and felt light headed and nauseous. He tried his best to stay conscious for as long as he could.

Minutes passed and he couldn’t keep his body upright anymore, so he lay down on his side.

The whole bed around me is soaked in blood. This could be it. I can finally close my eyes… Forever.

?

Lennart found the pair by the long white table that stretched along the wall. Elin leaned over the microscope and Jonatan stood beside her holding a glass of liquid. Both looked over when the door closed after him.

“Good day to you, Lennart,” Jonatan greeted and put the glass on the table. Elin pulled away from the table.

“You told me you found something?” Lennart looked at her with anticipation.

“Yes.” Elin nodded and took a deep breath. “We discovered that Scarlett was actually poisoned.”

Lennart’s eyes widened. “What?”

“We were also surprised and ran all the tests to make sure. There’s no mistake.”

Lennart ran a hand through his hair, his mind already processing this new information and trying to come up with some logical explanation. This sheds a whole new light on the case.

But how and when could this happen?

“Does this mean the blow to her head didn’t kill her?” Lennart locked eyes with Elin.

“Yes. That wasn’t what killed her, but we still need to find out what exactly poisoned her.”

Lennart ran his hands over his face. “Show me everything you’ve discovered so far so I can start the search.”

?

Lennart stormed out of the laboratory and headed for his work room. He took a few steps when it occurred to him that he could share this news with Ryosuke.

He halted and contemplated briefly if that was the right decision.Should I inform him about this as well? Or rather, no? It shouldn’t make any difference to the case.

He opted to go to see him at least, then to decide on his way. He turned in the opposite direction and made his way through the hallway.

As Lennart was about to reach cell number six, he thought about what to say, since he also wanted to talk about Ryosuke not eating his meals.

He stopped and called out his name. Ryosuke was lying on his side, facing the wall as he had been most of the time.

Lennart glanced at the full plate. “Ryosuke. You didn’t eat your food again.” Hoping to get a reaction from him this time, Lennart felt the rising tension when he saw no movement.

“Ryosuke.” He tried louder, but Ryosuke didn’t answer.

What’s wrong with him? He is just lying like that on his side as if…

A surge of panic passed through him like electric wave and he hurriedly reached the guard.

“Gimme the keys from Ryosuke’s cell! I think there’s something wrong with him.”

The guard looked at him puzzled but obeyed. He handed him the keys and followed after him.
