After the mornings proved unsuccessful lately, Liam and Edvin focused on catching the signal during the day and at random hours. Both sat at the table and changed the stations one by one.
When they didn’t hear anything other than the annoying hissing, Liam declared, “If this continues, we will have to take matters into our own hands.”
Edvin turned to him. “What do you mean?”
“When the radiation levels drop, we should go outside to explore. Hopefully we’ll get more info.”
“Mhm. I’m tired of this. I feel like I’m trapped in a cage.”
As Liam changed the stations, they heard the door open.
“How are you boys doing?” Anna greeted them with a smile.
“Don’t ask us, Annie. Not good.” Laim shook his head.
“What’s the matter?” Anna pulled one empty chair closer and sat beside him.
“We still can’t get a connection, well except for that one bunker,” Liam explained.
“But that’s something. Don’t lose hope. We’ll get some signal soon enough.”
“I wish I was so positive like you.”
Edvin took the switch and stated, “Okay, let’s try this once more. Cross your fingers.”

The hissing of the static stopped, and Liam, already on the edge, leaned over and spoke into the mic, “Hello?”
“Liam?”
“Yeah, it’s me.” Liam sighed. Once again it was just Lucas, and although irritated, Liam asked, “Do you have some news?”
“I think I know why we can’t get a signal from other survivors.”
“I’m listening.”
“We think the radio station is destroyed.”
Liam’s shoulders dropped. “No shit.”Genius.Liam had realized this might be the issue long ago. “And have you been out since then? We’re checking every few hours, but there are no changes.”
“Yes. And I’m surprised there are still high levels of radiation.”
Edvin leaned closer to Liam so Lucas could hear him, and asked, “How far did you go?”
“Not too far. We didn’t want to expose our people for too long. It’s still not safe, even with a suit.”
“And did you discover something? See someone?”
“No. We didn’t see anyone.”
“It makes sense. We have no idea what’s going on, so everyone is hidden. Are you sure your meter is not broken?”
“We’re sure. Maybe it’s yours that’s broken.”
