“If I can’t find and kill him in two days, I will come back and we will leave together. I promise.”
“I haven’t decided yet, Massacre.”
“Then I will stay until you do. I meant what I said, Amber. I won’t force you to do anything. But, baby, I need you to listen to me on this. You’re my wife in the eyes of the Biker Federation. I’m not leaving you again.”
“Maybe next time, ask a girl first before you spring marriage on her. Kind of kills the mood when there is no build-up.” I smirked and so did he.
“Sure, baby.”
“Massacre?”
“Yeah, baby?”
“What do I do if you don’t come back?”
“Then I want you to take my patch to this address,” he said, reaching into his pocket and handing me a small black card. On the front was just a skull emblem with two guns poking out of the skull. On the back was an address in South Dakota. That was it. Nothing more. “When you get to the door, ask for Firestride. He will know what to do and where to find me.”
“And if he doesn’t?”
“Then run, baby. Run as fast as you can and never look back.”
“I’m scared, Massacre.”
He pulled me close, his arms solid and warm, anchoring me to the spot even as my nerves threatened to unravel. “I know, baby. So am I. But you’re stronger than you think. Promise me, whatever happens, you won’t let fear chase you into the dark. You’ll find your way. Firestride, the address, my patch—it’s all you need. Trust yourself.”
I nodded as I looked up at him. Staring into his warm blue eyes, I imagined a life with this man. Seeing his magnetic smile, hearing his laughter, feeling his arms around me for the rest of my life and for the first time, I felt wanted, needed, loved.
This man was everything I didn’t want, but desperately needed, and when his head dipped toward mine, I met him halfway as our lips touched for the very first time. His kiss was soft, tender, and everything I never knew I craved. Pulling away, I felt a tear slip down my cheek. I didn’t want him to go. I didn’t want to lose him. Not now, not ever. “I love you,” I whispered, my words tumbling out before I could stop them.
He froze, his eyes searching mine, and for a moment, I saw a flicker of something—hope, wonder, fear? Then he was pulling me close, his arms tight around me, and he whispered back, “I love you, too, baby. More than anything.”
The moment hung between us, heavy with unspoken promises and fears. I knew he had to go, but I didn’t want to let him out of my sight.
“I’ll be back,” he vowed, his voice thick with emotion. “Two days, I promise. And then we’ll figure this out together.”
I nodded, my throat too tight for words, as he placed a soft kiss on my forehead. With one last look, he turned and walked away, his steps purposeful, his shoulders squared, ready to face whatever lay ahead.
?As I watched him go, my heart felt like it was being ripped from my chest. I knew he was doing this to protect me, but the thought of losing him was unbearable. With a heavy sigh, I turned and made my way back upstairs, the card still clutched in my hand. I knew I should get some rest, but sleep felt like an impossibility. My mind raced with worries and what-ifs. With a sigh, I slipped back into my room and locked the door, the weight of the key in my pocket a reminder of the danger that lurked. Every instinct screamed at me to run after him, to beg him to stay, but I stayed rooted where I was, clutching hope and dread in equal measure.
The roar of his bike echoed in the distance, a last reminder that love could be as fierce and fleeting as gunfire. My chest ached with longing, but somewhere in that ache was a flicker of resolve—a determination to be as brave as he thought I was.
Shouting woke me hours later and when I headed downstairs, I saw Reaper and King tearing into several men. None of them said a word as both presidents ripped into them.
Seeing Torment leaning against the bar, I walked over to him.
I met Torment when Ellie called him after Kytten’s therapy sessions with Melissa weren’t going well. In fact, from what I heard, Kytten flat out refused to talk to the woman anymore. However, when Torment showed up, I watched my brother lose his shit before he stormed out of the clubhouse, cursing Montana to hell and back. Something about not needing a babysitter, as the handsome man grinned from ear to ear.
“What’s going on?”
“Biker politics at its finest,” he scoffed, shaking his head as he picked up his cup of coffee. “First the yelling, then come the threats and then the orders. It’s always the same no matter what clubhouse I’m in. Too many swinging dicks and not enough—”
“Finish that sentence, and I will fucking kill you, asshole.”
Torment turned and beamed. “Good morning, sunshine.”
“Fuck off,” my father grumbled, shoving the handsome man away from me. “And stay the fuck away from my daughter.”
“And why would I do that?” Torment needled. “Amber is a beautiful young woman and the newest member of the Soulless Sinner family. It’s only fair I get to know her.”
