“Why not?”
“It’s always family drama.”
“What happened now?”
The brother turned to look at me. “You should know. You brought this shit here. Tell me, Massacre, when shit hits the fan, and it will soon enough with you here. Is it just gonna be you, or can we expect your club to ride in?”
“You got something against the Golden Skulls?”
“Nope,” the brother said, snuffing out the butt of his cigarette with the toe of his boot as he looked off into the night.
I knew he was lying. About what, I didn’t know.
“If you got something to say, say it.”
The brother said nothing more as he walked off into the night.
Left alone, I watched him leave when I heard Bane shout, “You should have stopped him!”
Taking a deep breath, I pushed open the club doors and walked into the fire.
“It was already done!”
“You are the fucking president of a club, Meredith! You could have ordered him to take it back!”
“I did!” Val shouted. “He refused. My hands were tied.”
“Bullshit!”
“Don’t you take that tone with me, August Brian Lansing! I’m not one of your whores you can push around.”
Bane took a menacing step toward Val, got right in her face, and sneered, “You are the only whore I’ve fucked, woman. Can you say the same thing?”
Valhalla blanched, then narrowed her eyes.
“I think we all need to take a step back before either of you say something you can’t take back,” Haizley, the club’spsychologist and Gunner’s old lady tried to intervene, only to be stopped dead in her tracks when Bane and Val both clipped, “Shut up, Haizley!”
Kytten walked over, taking the woman’s arm. “You best listen, Haizley. I know that look. Val is just getting started.”
“Come on, babe,” Gunner said, wrapping his arm around his woman. “Maybe this one isn’t for you to fix.”
“But I can help,” she whispered as he dragged her away just as the doors opened and in walked Sypher, Ghost, and Melissa, who was carrying Danika. The second the little girl saw Bane, she wiggled until Melissa put her down, and we all watched as the little girl ran over to Bane. Tugging on his pants, all anger fled his face as the grumpy fucker bent down and picked up his granddaughter, holding her close. Glaring at Val, he sneered, “This isn’t over, woman.”
But Val wasn’t listening as she stared at the little girl.
“What the hell is going on now?” Sypher asked, stepping closer to me.
“Family drama,” I said, then walked over to King and whispered, “We need to talk. Call for church.”
King growled. “Once again, asshole. This is my club. You don’t order me around.”
“It’s about the Death Dogs.”
King closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and groaned, “What the fuck did you do now?”
