“Yeah?Go on,” he says, studying me closely.
I sigh, sitting up and leaning against the wall.“Promise you won’t freak out.”
He raises an eyebrow, looking both curious and cautious.“Okay…”
“Almost a week ago, Fox… tried to kiss me.”
The room goes silent as Landon’s eyes widen.“What?”
“I know, it sounds insane.I was freaking out.It was just so… unexpected.”I bite my lip, feeling a bit embarrassed now that I’m saying it out loud.
Landon lowers his legs from the desk and joins me on the bed.“Wait, what did you just say?”
“That day at the parking lot, when he saw us?And later, after you dropped me off at the apartment, he confronted me, asking if we were dating.I asked him why he even cared, and he started flirting with me.He leaned in to kiss me, and then his girlfriend, Lexi, came in, and… we both backed off.”
“Oh my god. But… Fox is straight.”
“Yeah, I know.”I shrug.“That’s why it was so confusing.I talked to Leanne about it…”
“You told Leanne before telling me?”He gives me a mock glare.
“Calm down, I was freaked out!She just happened to be there at the time.”
Landon rolls his eyes but relents.“Fine, whatever. What did she say?”
“She thinks maybe he was just curious—and that since I’m kind of clueless about stuff like that, he might’ve thought I’d be easy to mess with.”I scratch the back of my neck, avoiding his gaze.
“That… could be it,” Landon admits.“Or… he could actually be attracted to you.”
I snort.“Please.I know you like to joke, but let’s be real.Fox is straight, he has a girlfriend, and I’m… not exactly his type.”
Landon just smirks.“You never know, Cam.You’re pretty likable.”
I grin and raise an eyebrow.“So, did you fall in love with me too?”
He laughs, rolling his eyes.“As your best friend, maybe. But seriously—did you actually want to kiss him?”
I shrug, looking away.“In the moment… yeah, maybe. But now, just thinking about it makes me mad.Fox is such an ass.”
“What if he’s acting like that because he likes you?”
“Jesus, Landon.Fox is straight, okay?Let’s drop it.”I hop off the bed, shaking my head.
Landon stands too, hands up in surrender but grinning.“Hey, I’m just saying, you don’t have to be a girl for a guy to fall for you.Maybe there’s something about you that’s different from what he finds in his girlfriends.”
Groaning, I grab my book and backpack. He needs to stop planting this idea in my head before it takes root.
“Hungry?”I ask, hoping to change the subject.
“Starving,” he says, grabbing his things.
“Let’s grab something to eat, and then we’ll hit the library.”
Landon chuckles as he follows me out the door.“You know you can’t dodge this conversation forever, right?”
I roll my eyes and hurry ahead, smiling despite myself.
With my earphones in, I’m attempting to work on my assignment that’s due Monday—even though it’s only Friday.Landon stepped out of the library to take a phone call, but I can’t concentrate. His words from earlier keep echoing in my head.
