“There’s nothing wrong with longing for your true love, you know,” she adds, smirking as she takes a bite of pizza.

“I don’tlong,” I say, glaring at Landon when he giggles.“I’m not some love-struck puppy.”

“Oh, please,” Leanne says, waving me off.“You’retotallya lovesick bird.”

“He called me a lovebird,” I say, pointing accusingly at Landon.

“Because youarea lovebird,” Landon defends himself, laughing.“Don’t pretend you’re not.”

Leanne smirks.“Don’t mind Landon. He’s just jealous because Blaze is one phone call away.”

“Thank you!”I say, raising my hands dramatically.Landon groans.

Leanne snatches my water bottle and takes a sip without asking—classic Leanne.“Heard from Fox recently?”she asks.

“Yeah, we talked this morning.I think I’d lose my mind if we didn’t talk every day.”

“That’s sweet,” she says, stealing another slice of pizza.“Oh!I heard you got promoted.Nat mentioned it.You’re a chef now, right?”

I nod, chuckling.“I’m not a chef, just the baker.Gio’s Burger made me the baker after they fired the last one.”

Leanne’s eyebrows shoot up.“Wait, baker?Since when do you bake?”

“My mom runs a bakery, remember?I used to help her all the time.I pitched a new idea to Leo, my boss, and it became a hit.Now I’m the one baking all the treats.”

“That’s amazing!”Leanne says, beaming.“How come we’re not celebrating?”

“Because Fox isn’t here,” Landon teases, dodging my playful punch.

“Fuck off.”I glare at him as he laughs.

“It’s true, though,” Leanne says, her expression softening.“We’re proud of you, Cam.You’re doing great—even if you’re moping over Fox half the time.”

“Thanks,” I say, smiling. And for the first time in a while, I feel a little lighter.Maybe I’m not as alone as I thought.

I step into the quiet apartment, shutting the door behind me.The silence feels heavier without Fox here.If he were, he’d know exactly how to lift my mood after such a long day.Instead, I have to settle for memories and our FaceTime calls to keep me going.

After a quick shower, I grab my laptop and set it on the countertop while I prep a simple pasta dinner.I call Fox on FaceTime, and he picks up after the fifth ring.

“Hey, babe,” he greets, his familiar smile lighting up the screen.

“Hey,” I reply, my own smile forming instantly. He’s lounging in his bedroom, wearing a white long-sleeve shirt and joggers, looking effortlessly handsome.

“Cooking again?God, I miss your food.I’ve been living off junk since I got here,” he says, mock-pouting.

“You poor thing,” I chuckle.“How’s med school?Everything okay?”

“Class is good, but…” He smirks, his blue eyes glinting mischievously.“I missed you.And to be honest, I’ve been horny all day thinking about you.”

I pause mid-chop, biting my lip.“Fox…” I murmur, avoiding eye contact with the screen. He knows exactly what he’s doing—getting under my skin with that teasing tone of his.

“Are you blushing?”he teases.

“Something wrong with that?”I ask, glancing at the screen to see him grinning like he’s won some unspoken competition.

“Not at all.I just really wish you were here,” he sighs, running a hand through his hair.“I’d show you exactly how much I missed you.”

I roll my eyes playfully, trying to focus on the pasta.“You have a seminar this weekend, right? No chance of a surprise visit?”
