“Wow.I didn’t see you as the type to freak out after kissing someone you like,” I tease.
Before he can respond, the crowd erupts into cheers behind us.Fox just scored, and his teammates high-five him as the noise swells around us.Fox turns to look at me and winks, a grin tugging at the corners of his mouth.I blush, biting my lip and quickly looking down.
“Alright, enough with the eye-fucking,” Landon mutters, smirking.
I laugh softly and turn my attention back to Landon.“So… Blaze.Do you still feel that way about him?Even when he was flirting with me?”
Landon shrugs.“It was complicated. You’re my friend, Cam.Getting jealous or mad at you wouldn’t have made sense. You didn’t know about our history.”
“Do you want to give him another chance?”
“I still like him.”Landon sighs, his shoulders slumping slightly.
“You love him,” I say gently.
Landon groans, covering his face with his hands.“I hate that you’re right.”
I chuckle, elbowing him lightly.Landon drops his hands and smirks at me.
“You and Mr.Hottie make it past first base yet?”he teases.
I roll my eyes, groaning.“Shut up.We haven’t done anything.”
“What? It’s been over a month! What are you, scared?”
“Freaking stop, Landon.”I glare at him, trying to keep my voice down.Talking about Fox and me in public feels too intimate, too exposed.Besides, things are moving at their own pace, and I’m not in a rush.
The first half of the game ends, and the crowd begins to settle.Landon leans closer, his voice dropping to a whisper.“Heard from Elias?”
“Nothing.”I shake my head.
After Elias insulted Fox outside Gio’s Burger, he texted to apologize.I told him it was fine, but I didn’t like how he had bad-mouthed Fox.That was the last time we spoke.A few days later, I tried calling him, only to discover he had blocked my number.
“Damn.That guy’s a mess,” Landon mutters.
“Don’t talk about him like that. He’s a good person,” I reply, sighing.
Landon raises a brow, clearly skeptical, but doesn’t argue.
The mood shifts when someone sits down beside me.I turn, surprised to see Lexi taking a seat. She flashes me a fake smile, and my stomach sinks.
“Hey, Cameron,” she says, her voice dripping with insincerity.
Landon leans forward, his eyes narrowing.“Oh, look. The wicked witch is here. Why am I not surprised?”
“Get a life,” Lexi retorts, smiling sweetly.
“Says the two-bit whore.”Lexi’s face hardens, but she quickly masks her irritation.
“I need to talk to you, Cam,” she says, ignoring Landon.
“What do you want?”I ask, trying to keep my voice steady.Out of the corner of my eye, I see Fox glance toward us from the field, his expression tightening.Blaze notices too, his gaze shifting between us.
“I need you to get Fox to take me back,” Lexi says bluntly.“We’re in love, and this thing he has going on?It’s just a phase.”
I blink at her, stunned by her audacity.“Why do you think he’s in love with you?”
“He’s always loved me,” she says, her voice wavering.“I know he still does.”
