Then Luna was carrying a hybrid in her womb.
Kieran returned just then, catching Dominic’s eye.
“You even brought Kieran Nash out of hibernation,” Dominic said dryly. “Must have been a special mission.”
Kieran smirked. “Had to come rescue him. Not much he could have done without me.”
“Commander,” Kieran nodded respectfully to Dominic, then to Luna. “Luna.”
She smiled and returned the gesture.
Marcus raised a brow toward Dominic, a silent jab at the fact that Kieran also used her first name.
Dominic shrugged. “He’s not the one with an infamous nickname.”
Kieran and Marcus burst out laughing.
Dominic didn’t flinch. Just looked bored.
“I’m Dominic Blackwood,” he said finally, introducing himself to her, a shade more polite now.
“Alpha of the Silverlight Valley Pack. Pardon my warm welcome,” he continued.
Athena took his hand. “Athena Meadows. Thank you. Your place is… magnificent.”
“Athena Meadows,” he repeated, glancing subtly at Marcus.
A smile tugged at his lips. Athena wasn’t sure why.
“Please feel at home. A guest of Marcus is a guest of mine.”
“Not really. She’s here for Luna,” Marcus corrected.
Athena glanced between them, confused, trying to read whatever passed silently between them.
“Oh, your son is beautiful,” Luna interjected thankfully as she pulled Athena to the side, leaving the men to their talks.
“What’s his name?” she asked.
“Riley,” Athena answered.
Luna reached to pat his head gently but pulled back quickly, as if sensing something. Athena tensed.
“He’s…special,” Athena said simply. “Come. Let me show you around.”
Athena wondered if that was okay, as the lady was heavily pregnant.
Luna added, “Don’t worry. Dominic hasn’t let me do a thing all day. This is my great escape.”
Athena laughed, and they stepped outside.
Luna explained to Athena how the idea of the camp began. Apparently, Dominic led the Hunters’ squad; it was why Marcus and Kieran had referred to him as Commander, and there were two others.
She narrated how they had uncovered corruption within the system. Some witches had been wrongfully captured for dark rituals. As a witch herself, Luna had seen the need to protect their own. And when Dominic fully assumed the role of Alpha, he helped set up this place—a safe haven for witches, hybrids, including dark witches, ready to choose the right side and help them fight the dark force.
They walked by different witches’ shelters. The women gave Luna a bow in respect, but what shocked her was that they also smiled at her. They acknowledged her.
“It’s nothing huge,” Luna said, “But we could lead great lives from this small place, don’t you think?”
