She saw herself beneath golden sunlight, a garden blooming in full spring behind her. She was laughing, and her belly was round and bigger than usual.

She was pregnant.

Riley was a bit older now, his blonde hair flowing as he raced through the fields.

Athena clutched her stomach in the vision, breathless with joy, and then Marcus caught her from behind, arms circling her waist, pressing a kiss to her neck.

The images dissolved from her sight as she reeled back to the present. And just as the warmth swelled in her chest. Beside her, Marcus’s body had gone still.

She turned, and their eyes met.

“You saw it,” she whispered, barely believing it.

He nodded. “You… you were pregnant.”

“And Riley—he looked so happy.”

Marcus reached out, hand trembling slightly as he brushed her cheek with his knuckles.

“That’s our future,” he said softly, voice awed. “That’s what it would be now.”

Athena’s eyes shimmered. “Yes. We built that. Together.”

Marcus swallowed, his emotion thick in his throat. “We changed it. Just by standing together.”

They had fought to change their fate. Found each other again when fate threatened to pull them apart, and they had fought hard for a safe place for themselves.

And now? They would finally live in the peacefulness they had fought for.

Athena leaned into him, resting her head on his chest.

Above them, the sky glistened in color as the rain drizzled down.

For them, it felt like dawn, the kind of dawn that didn’t just mark the end of darkness…

…but a bright beginning from a dark end.
