Still, it’s quite a bit of care Cam will need. The knowledge that we’ve gone through all this rigmarole for a worthwhile purpose settles me. We’ve done the right thing.

Cam decides to go with the no-surgery option, they put a cast on his ankle, and he receives a prescription for pain relief along with a bunch of other instructions, which Dr. Logan tells to me as much as to Cam. I’m happy to think that I’ll be able to help take care of my husband.

On the way home, we stop to fill his prescription, which he takes right away.

As we drive back to his house, I’m amused at how quickly the painkiller loosens him up. To be fair, there’s quite a bit of traffic today, so everything is taking longer than it should, and breakfast was a couple of hours ago, so the medication is probably hitting hard.

“You know what I was thinking?” Cam says. His voice is a tad slurred, and it’s adorable.

“What’s that?” I ask, hiding my smile. I’m also glad that I drove.

“Have you ever seenStar Wars?”

“Yes.”

“All theStar Wars. I mean more than one war of theStar Wars. More than onemovie.”

“Yes, I think I’ve seen most of them,” I say. And OMG he’s so cute when he’s loopy.

“Have you ever noticed how there’s no galactic OSHA?”

I snort. “What?”

“I mean, what the hell? There’s all these bridges without railings where if you fall, you fall into infinite space. The least they could do is put up a barrier. If I have to wear a hard hat when I’m on a job site with scaffolding, you’d think that they could protect the Death Star. Someone needs to do an IIPP or whatever it’s called. Injury and illness prevention plan.”

“I think you’re on to something. I’ll see if my office can prepare a galactic OSHA IIPP,” I say, giggling.

He nods, satisfied, then rests his head against the window.

When we get to his place, I walk him inside and settle him on the couch. He kisses me before I leave, and it’s long and deep enough that my toes curl and I have to sternly remind myself I’m supposed to be going to work, not throwing my resolutions to the wind and dragging his drugged but very appealing butt into the bedroom. He also gives me a goofy smile, which makes me happier than it should.

I switch to my car and drive to my office, arriving a good four hours late. But the first thing I see when I walk in is a large vase of flowers and silver and white balloons at the reception desk reading “Mr. and Mr.” Everyone comes out of their offices, clapping and congratulating me.

My eyes tear up. I love the people I work with.

“Happy wedding!” Alden says.

“Thanks!”

Charlie smirks at me, and Reyna gives me a speculative smile. She also gives me a hug.

Noah hugs me, too. “I think I’ve figured out why you did this,” he whispers. “And it’s pretty generous of you.”

I shrug. “It’s the right thing to do.”

I’m suddenly hit by panic that someone is going to call us out for insurance fraud. Except … we’rereallymarried. And we can stay married as long as we want. So I grin and accept the surprised well-wishes from everyone. “Congratulations!” Sam says, and I get another hug.

People slowly head back to work, and I’m left with a small group surrounding me and asking questions like “How long have you known Camden?” For years, actually. And “When did you know he was the one?” Very recently.

Although, truth be told, I’ve had a crush on him since I first saw him at a firm party when we hired Charlie and Reyna a few years ago.

Danny cuffs my bicep. “What’s it like being an old married man?” he asks.

I laugh. “I’ve been married for approximately twenty-four hours, which is also my age. That’s barely old or married.”

Danny grins. “Okay, fair enough. But you’re good?”

I think of what it felt like to have lunch with Cam. How it felt to sleep next to him. His kisses this morning. What his almost-naked body looks like. How much I want to eat him up. His goofyStar Warsthoughts.
