I grimace, end the video, and upload it before I lose my nerve. Then I set my phone down and throw myself on my bed.

Charlie calls me moments later. “Um, do you have something to share with the class?”

“What are you talking about?”

“I have an alert for your channel.”

I rub my face. “Yeah. Okay. So you’re saying it was a bad idea for me to post like that.”

“No, you asshole. I’m saying you fell in love without telling me.”

That makes me chuckle. “I didn’t know I had to get your permission.”

“You don’t have to get anything from me. But this is big news, you have to admit. Also, do you think Alden follows your account? It’s kind of pointless to make this big declaration if he’s never going to see it.”

“I guess I’ll go over to his place and tell him.” I scrub my face. “Or should I text him first?”

“No. Pretend this is a movie and you’re the main character. You’d want to show up on the doorstep, right?”

“I have no idea. I’ve never been in a movie.”

“Go over there and tell him how you feel. I dare you.”

“Okay,” I say. “Thanks.” I hang up and get dressed, feeling the blood coursing through my veins and pounding in my ears.

When I go into court, while I plan carefully beforehand, there’s always a certain amount of winging it. I can handle that, because I know my case thoroughly and can think on my feet.

Do I know my own case thoroughly? Do I know how I really feel?

I love Alden Meyer. A thrill runs along my skin and down my spine. Yes, I love him.

That’s all there is to it. I can’t imagine a life without him. I want him with me. I want to have him however he’ll let me.

I grab my keys, wallet, and phone and head for the door.

CHAPTER29

Alden

I’m lying on my bed when my phone buzzes.

Mason: You should check Danny’s Ad/VICE account.

Alden: As far as I know, he quit posting.

Mason: I know. But I randomly checked, and you have to see it. It’s trending on other social media, too. Even though he only posted less than a half hour ago. He has like 50,000 shares.

My heart is in my throat. What did he do?

I click on Danny’s video and watch. And listen. Really listen.

By the end, I’m shaking.

I find my mom in the living room.

“Alden?” she asks with concern. “What is it?”

Wiping my forearm over my nose, I give her a watery smile. “I think Danny loves me.”
