"Where are we going?" I asked.
"Wanna show them a bluff," he answered.
We got to a large dirt area, overlooking the water, with nothing around us except the ocean and the ranch. In the dark, we could hear the crash and return of the waves. Ryan and Amelia held hands, looking out, and Will draped his arms around my waist, standing behind me, his chin on my shoulder, hat left in the car.
I shivered in the nighttime air.
"C'mon," he said, and walked me back to the truck, leaving me at the truck bed. He went to the cab, opened the back door, rummaged around behind the back seat, and came up with a blanket. Then he spread it out on the back of the truck, helped me and Amelia up, and climbed up, followed by Ryan. We all lay in the back of Will's truck, packed like sardines, Will and I spooning, and facing the opposite direction of Amelia and Ryan, who were spooning, and looked at the infinite stars.
Amelia let out a sigh and breathed, "It is so beautiful here."
After a while, quietly, we piled back in the truck, and Will drove us back to the compound. We said goodnight to Amelia and Ryan, who were in a downstairs guest room, and I trudged up the stairs after Will, my sandals in my hand.
When we got to his room, I paused at the doorway and, taking a step forward, asked, "Are we going to sleep now?"
Will answered from inside the bedroom, "Oh no, darlin'. We're just gettin' started."
