His lips pressed together but he didn’t answer. Not that it mattered. I was so grateful he was here. A shiver rolled over my skin and he quickly slid off his jacket, draping it over my shoulders.
“Come on, our car is outside,” he said, nudging me forward. We exited the building and headed for the large town car.
“Wait.” My steps faltered, and I turned around to see the girls trailing behind me. We looked ridiculous, all of us barefoot and in skimpy bathing suits, the sunset long behind us. “My sister and friends are coming too, right?”
I noted Phoenix also had a suit jacket over her shoulders, and my eyes flicked to Dante in surprise. He never struck me as the gentlemanly type, yet he’d given my sister his jacket. It made me like him just a tad bit. In my short life of observing boys—or men—they usually either ignored Phoenix because of her disability or they tried to take advantage of her. Again, because of her disability.
My eyes flitted over my sister who followed us with her cheeks blushing crimson. She seemed to be avoiding Dante, who stood behind all of us with a bored expression. Spending time around Amon had taught me better though, and I knew his eyes were attentive to our surroundings, almost as if to ensure nobody could attack us.
“Yes, everyone.” Amon opened the car door and motioned for the girls to climb in. I shook my head and motioned for my sister to slide into the car first. Then my friends followed, grumbling under their breaths something about me being the baby of the group. When I readied to get into the back of the vehicle, I noted only two—extremely snug—seats remaining. I straightened up, meeting Amon’s and Dante’s eyes. “There are only two seats left.”
“So?” Dante must be bad at math. I wasn’t much better, but I could at least count the number of people present.
“There are three of us.”
He shrugged. “You can sit on my lap.” A low growl vibrated in Amon’s chest and Dante’s eyes flickered with amusement. “Or on Amon’s.”
“Get in the car, Dante.” Amon’s voice felt like a whip against my skin and he wasn’t even talking to me. His brother chuckled, unconcerned that he pissed him off, and slid into the car.
Amon’s gaze met mine. “My lap.”
I chuckled at his command and brought my hand to my head in salute. “Aye aye, Captain.”
We ended up sitting in the last backseat row, with me balancing on his knee when all I wanted to do was wrap myself in his arms. But I knew Phoenix would lose her shit and the girls would probably lean back and smack the shit out of Amon, despite the fact that he bailed us out of jail.
His hands covered mine, resting on my thighs, and I watched with parted lips how well we fit. Like we were two pieces of the same puzzle fitting together, even though we belonged to different worlds.
“Thank you,” I murmured softly, twisting to watch him over my shoulder, his eyes dark and heavy as they met mine. His hard body emanated enough heat to melt snow in Montana in the dead of winter. My body’s temperature suddenly skyrocketed, and the flimsy bikini I wore seemed to be altogether too much.
He kissed the back of my neck, skimming his lips softly and sending shivers over every inch of my skin. The man was trying to make me combust, right here and now. “Always.”
It felt like a promise, and my young heart sang all the love songs while thick silence muffled the luxurious interior. The girls all shared uncomfortable glances. Phoenix scooted as far away from Dante as she could, almost landing in Athena’s lap. Raven shot her a curious look, but Phoenix studiously ignored her.
We were in our own little world back here. Camila Cabello’s “Shameless” came on the radio, and the driver turned it up. The single word described my state of mind at the moment. I was shameless when it came to him. I wanted it all, and wanted to give it all in return.
The darkness in the car and our secluded seats fueled my confidence as I leaned back into his chest. Maybe it was the alcohol from earlier today or maybe it was just this boy, now a man, who had stolen my heart all those years ago before I realized what it meant.
My aching, wet vagina demanded relief. My treacherous hips moved of their own accord, grinding against his hard length. God, I couldn’t wait to be alone with him. Midnight was fast approaching, and with it, all of Amon’s reasoning for not taking my virginity would vanish.
With his hand still interlocked with mine, I held my breath, waiting for him to make a move. I didn’t care that we were in a car full of family and friends. I didn’t care if anyone could hear us. All I wanted was him.
“Touch me,” I begged, my voice barely a whisper against his ear.
His nose brushed my earlobe. “You’re very bossy, and still seventeen.”
I couldn’t help the huff of frustration that escaped me. “Only for another hour or so.” Then because I was feeling naughty, I took his hand and brought it between my slightly parted legs. “Make me yours before midnight.”
He brushed one finger over my damp bikini, then nipped my earlobe. “That’s not how we’ll celebrate your birthday.” His voice was possessive. Dominant. Then he whispered the five words that every girl wanted to hear. “I can’t live without you.” He increased the pressure on my clit, the cursed bikini still in the way. “And when I next take you, we’ll have all the time in the world so I can savor you.”
A man with principles. I couldn’t decide whether it was endearing or just frustrating as hell.
Through the haze in my brain, someone cleared their throat and I froze, Amon pushing my legs closed.
“So what happened?” Dante asked, but his eyes were on me. Why? I had no idea. Did Amon tell him about me? Or maybe he suspected Amon and I were doing something naughty back here?
Acting nonchalant, I shrugged while my entire body fought the flames licking at my skin. “Some guy was groping Phoenix, so I punched him.”
Something flickered in his eyes, dark and ominous, but it was gone so fast I wasn’t certain whether it was the moon throwing shadows over his face, deceiving me.
