I grinned.
“Deal.” Okay, maybe I agreed too fast because her eyes narrowed suspiciously. “Sleep in my bed,” I added quickly. “That’s on my wish list.”
She pursed her lips and her eyes fell down my body. From the moment I felt her soft lips on mine, she has been my addiction. She could demand I end my life and I probably would. For her. Now that she gave her body to me, knowing it was me, there was no point of return.
Shegaveherself to me. No return policy here.
She nodded and I couldn’t fucking wait to get home. The goddamn traffic. It was what sucked about New York. Margaret was a lot happier in Sicily and so was I. Especially after that rendezvous with her mother. If we never saw her again, it would still be too soon.
Maeve Callahan. The fucking two-faced bitch.
She looked just the way I remembered. Just the way my father liked them. Cheap. Sleazy. With big boobs and small brains.
Still, my subjective feelings apart, something about her showing up today bothered me.
My phone beeped, interrupting my thoughts, and once I parked in my underground garage, I pulled the cell out and swept the message open. It was from Guido.
*Your grandfather was attacked. No injuries. Don’t have a suspect.*
A growl vibrated in my chest and red marred my vision. In Sicily, my grandfather was untouchable. Nobody should have been able to get close enough to attack him. Was it Marchetti? It couldn’t be. He was deadly but not stupid, and he wouldn’t ruin our long standing business relationship. Nor the fact that our children would one day connect our families.
“What’s the matter?” Margaret’s voice penetrated the red mist in my brain.
I was about to tell her nothing when Nonno’s words echoed in my ear. He wanted me to have a confidante. A partner. Not just a woman. Nonno had that with my grandmother. I wanted that in my wife. She was so much more than just the woman I pined for.
“Nonno was attacked.” God, even saying those words and the thought of him being in that position had me fuming.
She sat up straight, deep concern in her eyes. “Is he okay? Is he injured?”
“He’s okay. No injuries.”
“Does he know who attacked him?”
“They don’t know who did it.” Fuck, it was the worst time. I didn’t want to leave Margaret, especially now that we were making headway towards building our relationship. Then there was her upcoming ultrasound. It would be our first one together and probably one of the last ones since we were approaching full term. Another four weeks.
Shit. Except I couldn’t leave him vulnerable and alone there. He needed me.
“We should bring him here,” Margaret suggested, her voice firm. “Then when we settle your business stuff, we all go back, figure out who’s behind the attack, and make them pay.”
She managed to surprise me. Again. Her big heart. Her softness. Her backbone.
She was the perfect package. My ideal match.
“You wouldn’t mind that? Nonno coming here?” I questioned just to be sure. “Nonno can be quite the handful when he leaves Sicily. He complains about everything and compares it all to his hometown.”
She grinned.
“I am. We can find every single faulty thing with this city and count the days to when we travel back to Sicily,” she said with a smile.
I grabbed her nape and pulled her closer to me, brushing my mouth against her ear.
“When we get home, I’m going to fuck you slowly,” I breathed in her ear, loving how a shiver rolled down her body and her nipples perked under her beautiful dress. “In every possible way.”
And I did. Until she begged for a reprieve then fell soundly asleep.
In my bed. Exactly where she belonged.
