I could hear the anguish in his voice. “I’ve come to an agreement with Marchetti,” I told him, keeping it vague. “He won’t touch Margaret, you nor your brothers. The same doesn’t extend to your uncle though.”

“So you want us to come on your word,” he hissed. “Why don’t you bring my sister home and marry her here?”

I knew what that entailed. Callahan would take her away from me.

“I’m marrying your sister in Sicily. In my domain. With or without you.”

“Fuck you, asshole.”Oh, he’s so coming, I thought smugly. He wouldn’t be able to resist seeing his sister and to ensure she was doing this willingly. “Yes, I’m coming.”

Fuck, I love being right.

“Have your passport ready and someone will pick you up. You’ll fly on my plane.”

After I hung up with him, I dialed Cassio.Riiing. Riiing.

He answered on the third ring. “Luca, what the fuck have you been doing in Italy for over a month now?”

I hadn’t told him my plan. I didn’t want to risk Áine getting wind of it, or she would have definitely warned her cousin. Although not even she knew where Margaret was. But if Cassio knew, he’d have told her. So I left him in the dark.

“I’m getting married,” I told him calmly. “You think you could get your ass here for a wedding this Saturday?”

It seemed today was a day for dropping bombs on everyone.

“Who in the fuck are you marrying?”

I heard a faint voice in the background. “Luca’s getting married?”

“So it seems, though it’d be good to know to whom.” Cassio’s response was a jab at me.

“You’ll find out,” I told him, smiling smugly. “If you can make it, I’ll arrange a plane. All you have to do is have your passport ready.”

“Is my wife invited?” he asked dryly.

“Of course. She’s family.”

That cross Atlantic flight would have been so much fun to witness.

ChapterTwenty-Five

MARGARET

Living with Luca and his grandfather proved to be very pleasant.

We had a routine going. In the morning, Luca handled his businesses back in the States while Nonno and I went for a stroll around the garden. Then we’d have lunch together and most of the time, Luca would join us.

They’d discuss current events, some legal and some illegal, then Nonno would take a nap and I’d roam the property. Sometimes Luca joined me.

The sun warmed my skin as I wandered through the rows of trees full of ripening fruits and nuts. I wore stretchy shorts and a loose pink top with thick straps. The further along I was in my pregnancy, the hotter I was. This had to be what going through menopause felt like.

So much to look forward to, I mused wryly.

“Ciao, bella.” Hot breath against my earlobe had me startling, my body jolting backwards.

A set of strong arms caught me before I lost my balance.

“What the fuck, Luca? Trying to kill me before we get married?”

He chuckled softly. “If I wanted to kill you, I’d eat your pussy and give you an orgasm.”
