Cassio growled and looked like he was about to curse me. Okay, that was kind of rude. And mean. Except whenever Luca looked at me like he knew me, I wanted to prove to him that he didn’t.
My hate was strong, bitter. One spark and it’d ignite through this room, consuming everyone.
“I hate your guts,” I gritted.
His teeth clenched. His jaw tightened. His gaze, unimpressed with my words, studied me. It traveled over every inch of me, studying the curves of my body, then came back to my face. His eyes darkened and flashed with something unmistakably sinful.
I shook off a shiver. He noticed it, his gaze turning warmer and heavier. This man saw too much. He wanted too much.
Luckily, my brothers strode in at that moment, like three Irish gangsters fromPeaky Blinders, pulling everyone’s attention to them.
Aiden sensed the tension, his gaze sharp on the King brothers.
“Ah, there is my baby sister,” Aiden greeted, flicking his aunt an apathetic glance and walking right by her without acknowledgement. He was still pissed at her and one thing that none of the Callahans did easily was forgive and forget.
My brothers grinned at me and pulled me into a hug. It felt like being a hot dog among three big bodies.
“Why didn’t you wait?” Kyran scolded softly.
“We could have all come together,” Aiden grumbled in a low voice. “I don’t like you alone among the wolves.”
My eyes flickered and caught the King brothers’ wary eyes on me. Nico Morrelli and his wife just arrived, but they kept their eyes on me and my brothers.
“I can handle them,” I murmured softly, touched by my brothers’ protectiveness.
“I know, but I love driving my niece,” Kyran remarked. “She has to get used to my awesome driving.”
That was another thing about my twin brothers. They raced their cars and sometimes applied their skills to everyday driving. I was used to it, but many weren’t. Most got car sick or terrified. Not me. I freaking loved it. But since I’d gotten pregnant, I’ve had reservations about being reckless.
“You know you love our driving,” Tyran chimed in, shoving his shoulder into his twin brother. “Stop being clingy and let me hug her in peace.”
I rolled my eyes as Aiden shoved both of them out of the way and pressed his mouth on my forehead. “How are you feeling?”
“Aiden, you just saw me this morning.”
“They are being overbearing big brothers.” Bianca Morrelli wobbled over to us, her belly twice the size of mine. She was pregnant with twin boys. Like having twin girls wasn’t bad enough. “Trust me, I know how annoying they are.”
She gave a pointed look at her own brothers, Cassio and Luca King. That family tree was complicated as fuck.
“We’re not annoying,” Luca drawled, looking at her affectionately. This side of the King brothers was new to me, and it was hard for me to trust it. We learned months ago that the King brothers had a sister, but the novelty of it still hadn’t worn off. “We’re just looking after you. You know, in case we need to kill your husband.”
The mischievous smile on Luca’s face caught me unprepared. It was disarming and something hesitant flickered in my stomach. I immediately shoved it aside.
“The day you successfully kill me, Luca King, will be the day that hell freezes over,” Nico said dryly, his hand wrapping around his wife’s growing waist. “My girls and boys are gonna kick your ass if you touch a single gray hair on my head.”
A round of chuckles followed.
“I think the girls are rapidly aging him,” Bianca remarked sheepishly. “They attempted to break into his safe.”
“Good girls,” Cassio and Luca said at the same time. “If they succeed in breaking into Morrelli’s safe, they’ll be able to rob anyone.”
“I’ll reward them,” Luca grinned. “Double the money they get out of the safe.”
Bianca groaned. Áine and I shared an amused glance.
“Teaching them to steal isn’t good parenting,” my aunt reprimanded.
“Funny you’d focus on that considering most people in this room are killers,” I remarked dryly.
