“Yes, I always wanted a sister,” she admitted softly. “Our dad is an asshole, but at least he gave me you.” Her eyes traveled over my friends. “I hope all of you come and visit us in Portugal. We spend most of the time there, except when Alexei has a job to do.”

“Is he really a contract killer?” Juliette blurted out, and I shoved my shoulder into her.

“Don’t answer that,” I told my sister.

“Yes, don’t. Otherwise Juliette will have nightmares,” Wynter quipped and we all chuckled. The baby stirred in my arms and I immediately shushed them.

“Don’t wake up the baby,” I whispered.

“God, I can see it already,” Juliette whispered, careful not to wake him up. “Davina will be shushing us all day and night once she becomes a mother.”

I rolled my eyes, ignoring her.

“About the school,” Aurora started and the four of us instantly stiffened. “Can I help? I can donate. Alexei would too. No strings attached.”

The girls and I shared a glance. We were adamant about not taking anyone’s money.

“Actually, would you consider teaching in our school?” I wondered instead. “Since you worked in the FBI, I bet you have great knowledge and resources.”

Aurora’s eyes lit up. “Seriously?”

I nodded.

“You’re family. I’d do anything for you.” Aurora hugged me, careful not to wake up her baby in her arms. Then her eyes went to my best friends. “All of you, because you were here for Davina when I couldn’t be.”

And just like that, Aurora became part of our team.

CHAPTER55

Iclimbed into bed fully expecting to find Davina asleep. Instead, I found her wide awake and waiting for me.

“Why aren’t you asleep?” I demanded to know.

“I can’t sleep without you,” she whispered softly, and fuck, if I didn’t love her admission.

“I went over some details with Alexei and checked on Quinn.” I pulled her closer to me, loving her body pressed against mine.

“Is Quinn going to be okay?” she asked, worry etched on her face. “I don’t even want to think about that being you.”

“Don’t want to be a widow yet?” I teased her. Today was a close call and it opened my eyes that a war was coming, whether I liked it or not. It might be here already.

“No, I don’t,” she growled. “Don’t even joke about it.”

I pressed a kiss on her nose.

“How did you like your sister?” I questioned her.

Her eyes lifted and even before she answered I knew her answer. “I really, really like her. And the baby.”

“I’m happy to hear that.”

Truthfully, in our world bad shit happens every day. It could have been me shot instead of Quinn. Or dead. I wanted to make sure she, my niece, and daughter would have someone looking out for them. And now I knew they would.

“She’ll help us with our school,” she said, yawning.

“I know you four can make the school happen,” I told her. “If you need anything, you tell me.”
