I wasn’t ready to tell the girls I fucked up big time during our first robbery. And then slept with Juliette’s father. Oh, but that wasn’t all. I married him too.
Jesus Christ!
Talk about the freight train coming at you a hundred miles an hour. But that sex last night. Shit, if he would have asked me to marry him again while he fucked me, I totally would have screamed my acceptance of his proposal.
It’s more than that,my heart whispered. I exhaled and ignored it, then continued walking. Awareness pricked at the side of my cheek and I turned my head to the right. It was all empty. I swore someone was watching me, and it wasn’t the crazy red-headed driver still sitting in his car.
But no matter where I looked, there was nobody there.
Shaking off the obvious paranoia, I continued to the building. At the entrance of our building, I glanced over my shoulder and the guy was still there. I swatted my hand in the air, shooing him away. I didn’t need a nanny to walk me to the door.
Slamming the door behind me, I rushed up the stairs of the hallway. The hallways were emptier than usual, many students already returned to their homes or on to whatever jobs they have found.
Unlike the four of us, most found regular jobs.
The moment I entered the little dorm room, three pairs of eyes turned my way.
“Fucking finally,” Juliette exclaimed. “Where in the fucking hell have you been?”
“Out,” I muttered.
“For two fucking days?” she screeched. God, she behaved like she was my mother, not my friend. It was kind of comical.
“Yes.”
“Was Wynter with you?” Ivy snapped, narrowing her eyes on me.
Dropping my purse onto the table, I threw myself onto the little couch where Wynter already sat, her face hidden behind the book.
“Hmmm.” I didn’t want to rat her out if she used me for an excuse while she was out. Admittedly, I was curious to know where she went. It wasn’t like her to go out and stay out. Not with her regimented training schedule.
Wynter peeked my way from the corner of her book and rolled her eyes, though she had a big smile on her lips.
“This is bullshit,” Ivy and Juliette announced at the same time. Something was definitely up Juliette’s and Ivy’s ass.
“Suddenly you and Wynter are roaming the streets at night, with God knows who, while Ivy and I are trying to figure out the next place to steal from.” Juliette was serious too. She pulled Wynter’s book down so she could see her face. “That’s not fair, we can’t do all the damn work.”
Jesus, I had never seen Juliette nor Ivy so determined. If they applied half of that passion to our business once it kicked off, we’d be golden. Though I suspected it might be the adrenaline rush and criminal life that appealed to them.
“I already have a place to rob,” Wynter announced, placing her physics book in her lap, while our heads whipped to her.
“How?” Ivy asked her suspiciously. “You’ve been gone for two nights.”
God, I just got home and we were already planning a new heist.
Ivy’s eyes ping-ponged between Wynter and me.
“Both of you have been gone for two nights,” Ivy said suspiciously. “Did you go scouting for places we could rob?” Ivy continued, almost sounding disappointed we went without her.
“Without us?” Juliette added accusingly.
Wynter and I shared a look. As a rule of thumb, we didn’t lie to each other. None of us. Except, ever since I was caught by Liam, I had withheld information. It seemed Wynter held some secrets too.
“No, we didn’t go together,” Wynter mumbled her admission, as if she was disappointed, she had to tell the truth. “I just happened to be there.”
“Just happened to be there,” Juliette repeated, blinking as if trying to process the words.
“Probably her date,” Ivy mused mischievously. “If spending days with a man can be considered a date. Did you sleep with your three-piece-suit guy?”
