The hour passed by too quickly. “Okay, any moment now,” Wynter whispered, the four of our heads rounded together. “The announcement will come.”
“I have to use the restroom,” Ivy glanced around. “I’ll be super quick.”
“If you hear the announcement,” I told her. “Don’t come back here. Head straight to the car.”
A jerky nod and she scurried off, while Juliette, Wynter, and I danced. My eyes connected with Juliette’s and she grinned.
“I don’t remember ever having so much fun,” she exclaimed. I glanced at Wynter and she nodded encouragingly. Juliette caught our shared look. “What? You two are hiding something.”
Wynter shook her head. “She just told me, but I think it’s wonderful news.”
Juliette grinned. “What? More news? Jesus, we’re full of news. Are you pregnant?”
Our dancing stopped and now the three of us stood in the middle of the dance floor, none of the other people around us mattered.
Before I’d lose my courage, I blurted it all out. “Liam and I talked about extending our family in the future.” Fuck, I loved saying our family.
“The traditional way?” She spoke slowly as if she had a hard time comprehending it.
I covered my face with both my hands. “Yes. With lots and lots of sex.”
The music faded into the background, the only thing I was aware of was Juliette, Wynter, and my own heartbeat. It was as if we were in a bubble, the whole world cut off. I peeked through my fingers, watching Juliette but she kept blinking again and again. As if she couldn’t process the words nor the concept.
“He loves you; nothing is going to change that,” I said, worried she’d reached a breaking point.
Wynter held Juliette’s hand and shook it gently. “Say something.”
“Ewww,” Juliette finally murmured. “Like ewww. Can’t you adopt?”
“I kind of like the sex part,” I muttered. “At least with him.”
“No wonder you’ve had this post-orgasmic look on your face for weeks. ” I rolled my eyes but couldn’t wipe out the grin on my face. “Marriage is for life in our world,” Juliette warned. “Having a baby will forever bind you to him, you know?”
I took a deep breath, then exhaled. “Yes, I know.”
“What about our school?” Wynter questioned.
And Juliette chimed in. “Yes, what about our school?”
“I planned to have our kids go to that school,” I told them both. “And our plans are not changing. We’re still doing it. But I love him.”
“Holy crap, you really are all into him,” Juliette gasped.
She had no idea.
“Well, I guess that’s okay then,” Juliette mumbled. Tension seeped out of my shoulders and I hugged her. Her arms came around me. “Now it’s official. All our kids will be going to our school and we’re all stuck for life. ”
“I thought we were stuck for life beforehand,” I joked.
“But now, you can’t escape,” she grinned.
Before another word could be uttered, the music was interrupted mid streaming and all three of us stiffened.
“Will the owner of the Jeep out back please move the vehicle immediately?” The announcement came through, then he proceeded to recite the tag number. I searched for Ivy, but she must have still been tied up in the bathroom.
“She’ll come to the back,” I told them. With a jerky nod, we rushed out of there.
