“Yes.” There was something so hot about this.
“Okay, whatever. We are all adults here.” I didn’t realize I was squeezing him closer till his head bent lower to me. We were inches away from each other. “Some of the romance novels are dark. Now, I don’t mind dark romance, mind you. Not at all. I’m open to it all, but there is dark and there is dark, dark. So this one author Daphne picked, I couldn’t quite stomach it.”
I stopped to take a deep breath.
“Yes?” he urged.
“For the first time I pretended to read the same stuff,” I admitted to him. “While I picked out something else... umm, more enjoyable to read. We have this group chat, the three of us, commenting on the books and hot moments.” I rolled my eyes. “I played along. And then damn Daphne decided she wanted to try one particular act. Problem was, I had no clue which one she was talking about. And I wasn’t going to read the entire damn series in one night and then go out on the hunt for the right guy the next night.”
“I have to admit, you have me in suspense. I am not quite sure where this is going. When was this?” Mateo commented on a chuckle, amusement sparkling in his beautiful eyes.
“God, I wished I didn’t know where it was going. It was about four months ago,” I took a deep breath then I continued, “I wish I could forget that night. Anyhow, I scrolled through the chat and there was a section about Vaseline. So I thought, this must be it. This is the winner. I didn’t even question what the hell she would need Vaseline for when it came to sex. It is weird enough, and that book was weird. So weird, that I decided I’d just go with it.”
His chuckle boomed, although he kept it low.
I continued in a whisper, “So the next night, we are out. Daphne is so nervous to try something new, she forgot her key ingredient. We stopped at the store, and since I was the designated driver for the night, and both her and Marissa were slightly tipsy already, I offered to get it from the store. You know, trying to be a good friend and to repay secretly that I haven’t read stupid series. I got Vaseline; I figured a travel pack is enough for one night. We get to this loud, overcrowded nightclub downtown and Daphne spots her dream guy.” I exhaled and felt like a hot melting mess. “Damn it, is it hot here or what?” I asked.
“It is a bit hotter now, I agree,” he rasped, his voice hoarse. Shit, were we getting turned on? Or was it just me getting turned on? From the haze in my mind, I noticed the song switched, but I was so focused on this man that I couldn’t quite figure out what was playing. “Continue, Brianna.”
Now, I was burning. I leaned closer to him and shifted my face to his ear. His deep, dark spicy smell got me so wet, I could orgasm just by brushing my thighs together.
“She decided she would do it and asked me for her thing. I dig through my purse and hand her the Vaseline. You should have seen her face. She looked at it like I gave her a damn snake. Marissa started laughing so hard she almost peed herself. She barely made it to the bathroom. We all followed; Daphne crying all the way there. The bathroom was full of drunk women, while she wailed about how she was supposed to experience ultimate pleasure tonight. And damn it, I was still confused on what she needed. So now I was pissed off and told her I got her the stupid Vaseline, what else does she want. So she screamed back in the middle of the bathroom that she needed lube, not damn Vaseline. Vaseline was for Emma’s rash.”
His laugh bellowed through the garden and the dance floor.
“Shhh,” I scolded him then smacked him playfully on his arm. “Everyone is looking.”
He continued laughing, creases around his eyes making him even more attractive.
“I don’t recall the last time I laughed so hard,” his admission came as a surprise. He must have had more entertainment than just hearing this story. “What happened then?”
“Some woman in the bathroom felt sorry for her and offered Daphne her own lube. Imagine that! Forget dealing pills and drugs. Just deal lube.” He laughed again and I smiled with him. “Daphne refused and said it must be a sign not to do it. We left, cutting our night short and went to my place.”
“Do you know what she needed the lube for?” he asked and I knew he was edging me on because he knew exactly what it was for.
“Yes, I sure do,” I murmured, my voice slightly breathless. “She enlightened me on our way home. And I had to admit to them I stopped reading the series a few chapters in. Apparently, I missed some serious hotness in book two. Anyhow, we ended the night drunk, she called her ex-boyfriend, I’m pretty sure she had phone sex with him in my bathroom, and then we all passed out in my living room.”

Hearing Brianna go through the events of the evening she got Vaseline was hilarious. I meant it when I told her that I hadn’t laughed this hard in a long time. Also, it highlighted she has a way with words.
“So that literature you wrote to support your grandmother and yourself, it was smut?” Although I knew the answer.
She blushed again. “So perceptive,” she murmured. “You mention that to anyone or this story about Vaseline, I will hunt you down and kill you,” she threatened me with a smile.
I had to smile. She just threatened the head of a famiglia and didn’t blink an eye. But then it hit me. She had no idea I was head of the mob family. She had no idea I ran it all.
“Geez, I’m joking,” she added. “I might hurt you a bit but I promise I won’t kill you.”
I smiled at her, enjoying her lightness with me. “My lips are sealed,” I vowed.
Her full lips curved into a smile. “Good, then nothing to fear.”
Her hands were wrapped around my neck and my arms were on her waist. I had to admit, there hasn’t been a woman that intrigued me like Brianna. I had never wanted a woman as much as I wanted this young woman in my arms, the age difference be damned.
“We should probably stop dancing,” she murmured. I could see her pulse racing, her face flushed that had nothing to do with heat or our dancing. Was she just as turned on as I was?
