“Where is she?” I growled. “And where are my daughter and my cousin?”

Brianna’s eyes darted around the room. She was looking for our daughter and Marissa. There was panic in her eyes, although she tried to keep herself together. There was not an ounce of doubt in my mind if something happened to either one of them, I would lose my wife. She would never forgive me.

“Where are Emma and Marissa?” I snarled my question again. Declan looked tense, his body getting in front of Brianna, shielding her in case Angelica tried something stupid.

“I will be the one asking questions,” she ranted, swinging her gun around. I took a step forward but she immediately pointed the gun, straight towards Brianna and Declan. I couldn’t risk the life of my wife. “Mateo and the Irish scumbag, get rid of your weapons. I know you have them.”

“Come and get it,” I taunted her. I wanted her to step out in front of the window, so one of my men could shoot her.

She pulled the trigger and the bullet whirled past me, towards Brianna. My heart froze. A whimper sounded behind me and I quickly turned around. Relief washed through my body. The bullet hit right next to Brianna, but she was unharmed. So was Declan, his arms around my wife.

“Get rid of the guns,” Angelica sneered. “Both of you.” I took mine out of my holster. So did Declan. “And don’t get any bright ideas. Otherwise, that kid and the woman will go up in smoke.”

“No,” Brianna answered quickly. “They’ll give you their guns.”

“I knew you’d come around.” Angelica had lost her mind; her eyes were red and unfocused. She was a complete nutjob. “Kick it my way,” she yelled. The woman must be on drugs; there was no other explanation for it.

I wanted to lunge and wring her neck with my bare hands. But if anything happened to my daughter or Marissa, Brianna would never forgive me. If anything happened to Brianna, I’d never forgive myself. The anger slithered through my veins, flaming through my body.

Instead, I placed my gun onto the ground and kicked it towards Angelica. Declan did the same.

“Where are Marissa and Emma?” Brianna’s voice was drenched with worry. “Please, just let me know they are okay.”

“They are alive,” she retorted, her tone sadistic. “They can see you but you can’t see them. Take one step out of place, and they’ll be dead before you can take your next breath.”

Brianna’s eyes widened, before shifting my way. It gutted me that her fear was the result of my poor choice in a woman before Brianna entered my life. She took hesitant steps and came behind me. The palm of her hand pressed against my tense back, and it grounded me. Her touch always did.

Declan followed her.

“How sweet?” Angelica taunted. All three of us watched her warily. “Your wife will stand by the window,” she demanded. “That’s right. We’ll give your men a show. And if they get any bright ideas to shoot, you’ll be dead before me.”

Brianna moved over to the window, on wobbly legs. She raised her chin, meeting Angelica’s eyes in defiance. A single tear trickled down her cheek. That was my strong and brave wife!

“Now, Mateo,” Angelica continued. “Kiss her!” Brianna looked at Angelica confused. “I want to see what’s so special about the bitch.”

When neither Declan nor I moved, she screamed causing Brianna to jump. “Kiss her or I’ll start shooting.”

“Mommy!” Emma’s scream came from somewhere but I couldn’t spot her. It was almost as if she was behind the wall.

Then banging against the wall started, and I heard Marissa’s voice. “Let us out, you crazy bitch.”

Brianna’s eyes glimmered, relief washing over her features.

“It’s okay, Emma,” Brianna’s eyes roamed around the room, hoping to catch a glimpse of her daughter and Marissa. “Everything will be okay. Close your eyes, and Aunt Mar will keep you safe.” There was more crying, and Brianna choked out her next words. “Mar, don’t let her see.”

“Last warning,” Angelica threatened. The three of us stiffened.

I took my wife’s face between my hands, then bent my head, taking her mouth into a kiss. Her lips tasted of tears and copper. She must have bitten her lip hard, causing it to bleed. I brushed my tongue over it, wanting to ease the sting. I wanted to ease all her worries, pain, and fears. Her hands covered mine, holding onto me and a light moan escaped her. Each kiss with my wife felt like a brand new one, the intensity and need for her growing with each day.

Declan

Watching Brianna and Mateo’s kiss felt intrusive, but I couldn’t tear my gaze off of them. It was just a kiss, but it was the most erotic kiss I had ever seen. Her engagement and wedding ring a stark reminder that she was his, shining as a reminder to Angelica that Mateo chose Brianna.

I kept an eye on Angelica, but fuck, I couldn’t stop staring at Mateo and Brianna. Brianna let out a small moan, and her fingers dug into his hands. It was as if she couldn’t help herself and needed more of him.

Yeah, I was getting a hard on. And Angelica was getting more enraged by the second. There was no way for her to miss what those two had. I didn’t understand it till just now, watching them get lost in a single kiss.
