Despite the clusterfuck we were in, I grinned.
Aoife broke our moment. “Kyle did you wrong,” she said. “We have done you wrong. But if you will allow it, I would like to be part of your daughter’s life. My sister, we were very close, twins. She would want me to care for her grandchild. We are blood. Please.”
“We look out for our blood,” Declan Sr. chimed in, his voice slightly hitched. “Kyle broke that, but we would never. Kyle was sick and we missed it.”
I glanced up at Mateo. “It’s up to you,” he murmured softly.
“How would that work?” I questioned Aoife, Declan Sr., and Mateo. “Considering the two organizations. Would there be a cease fire or something on the days you wanted to see Emma?”
Declan Sr. chuckled. “Cease fire. I like that.” Aoife smacked her husband on his arm.
“That’s not funny,” she reprimanded him. I didn’t think it was either. I couldn’t believe I was even considering it. My eyes sought out Antonio. He knew what I needed to know.
“They are home safe,” he spoke softly.
I exhaled. Ok, they are safe. They’d be happy when we got there. Marissa wouldn’t be. Declan’s parents would be sad too.
“I need to talk to Giovanni for a second,” I uttered. “Alone.”
“Amore-” Mateo was not thrilled not to have me within his grip.
“I won’t leave the room,” I assured him. He reluctantly agreed.
I made my way to Giovanni, aware of Marissa’s eyes on me.
“Hey,” I whispered low to him.
“Are you mad at me?” Giovanni asked and I frowned at that question.
“God, no,” I took his hand into mine. “If anyone should be mad, it is you at me. You are all bloody,” I muttered under my breath.
“Yeah, don’t be all soft with me and try to heal me,” he chuckled low. “Mateo might murder me because his wife is touching me.”
I followed his gaze and saw Mateo’s burning gaze on us. I smiled at my husband. Yes, he was possessive and jealous but I wouldn’t trade him for anyone else.
I turned back to Giovanni. “Okay, first question. Are you okay?”
“Yes, I am perfectly fine.” He grinned and there was a little blood on his teeth.
“Yeah, you have to clean up,” I told him and he smiled wider. “Okay, second question.” I took a deep breath. “How pissed off would you be if Declan and Marissa dated officially?”
Both of our gazes turned to his sister who stood still in the same spot, away from Declan but both of them kept sharing glances.
“If she wants to date him,” he replied. “What are you thinking?”
“I don’t want to stop Aoife from getting to know Emma. If those two are dating, and you are okay with it, then I would allow Emma to visit only when Marissa is visiting. Until I’m comfortable with them.”
“I think that is reasonable,” he muttered his agreement.
“I can’t believe he hit you.” I threw a glance in Declan’s direction. “First Mateo and now him.”
“What? Mateo never hit me?”
“Who beat you the first time?”
“Same damn guy.”
I narrowed my eyes at Declan and he caught my glare. “Maybe I should make the condition that you give him a taste of his own medicine.”
