“Then bring him,” I smiled, squeezing her hand. “You did all the work with the wedding. You should have the right to bring anyone.”
She glanced behind her, to ensure nobody was around. “I want to bring Declan,” she whispered.
“Oh.”
“Are you fucking crazy?” Daphne muttered sotto voce.
I watched Marissa’s face and eyes flash with hurt. “I would like my happily ever after too.”
And then I made up my mind. “Bring him,” I told her firmly. She was my best friend and had been through hell and back with me. She deserved to be happy and have the man she cared about. This was the least I could do for her.
“Brie-” Daphne started but I stopped her.
“It is a wedding,” I told her. “It might be a good way to show there is no need for tension.” Daphne’s eyes told me she didn’t believe it. “Will you tell Antonio?”
“Fuck no,” she spat back. “I want to get laid tonight.”
All three of us burst into laughter, and I took them both into a hug. “I love you,” I told them.
“Are you ladies planning trouble?” Mateo’s voice startled all three of us.
He was leaning against the doorframe at the entrance of our bedroom. This man took my breath away. He was handsome, his expensive suit highlighting his strong and tall frame. His appearance was fierce but a small smile on his face softened his features. His eyes were only on me and my body instantly responded.
I cleared my throat then grinned. “Do we ever plan trouble?”
“My guess would be all the time,” he replied.
I walked over to him and couldn't resist putting the palm of my hand against his chest. “Did Emma find you?”
“She did,” his smile was easy. “Dragged ten compliments out of me and then went to work on Antonio.”
I chuckled. “Sounds like my daughter.”
His finger trailed down my neck, and I forgot everything and everyone. “Is this what you are wearing to dinner?” His voice was low, seductive.
I blinked my eyes and then looked down at myself. “I was just about to get dressed.”
“Good,” he muttered, kissing me on the cheek and then whispered in my ear. “Otherwise, I’d have to kill the entire dinner party. I’m the only man that gets to see you like this.”
My lips curved into a smile.Definitely not an exhibitionist.
“Give me twenty minutes and I’ll be right downstairs.” He nodded, then turned around heading downstairs.
When I turned back to my friends, both of them watched me with a weird expression.
“What?” I asked, sounding a bit defensive although not sure why.
“Watching you two together,” Marissa muttered, “it is like porn.”
I frowned at her weird statement.
“You two are gravity,” Daphne added. “Like each breath you take is for him, and his breath for you. I would bet my life that you forgot we were here.”
My blush was enough confirmation. “C’mon, I need to get dressed.”

When we got to the restaurant, everyone was already there. Emma couldn’t wait to show off her dress to everyone so she insisted on going with Marissa. Giovanni and three other guards went with them. I wondered why Mateo had so many guards assigned to us but chalked it up to the wedding and all of Mateo’s family from Italy coming. He and Antonio had seemed on the edge over the last few days. When I questioned him, Mateo just explained there was an issue with one of their businesses.
