“Do you have a death wish?” Daphne uttered. “If someone finds out or sees you, shit will hit the fan.”

“Nobody will find out.” I wasn’t sure why Marissa was so certain. “He is great in bed and I want to talk to him.”

“What do you want to talk to him about?” I didn’t follow her way of thinking at all. “Isn’t it dangerous?”

“If I get somewhere with it,” she muttered, “I’ll tell you. And no, he won’t do anything to me. He wants to get laid too.”

“Jesus, Mar,” I muttered in shock. “You make it sound like a business transaction.”

She gave me a look. “What?” I questioned.

“Do you like Mateo?” That was one question I didn’t expect.

“What do you mean? This isn’t high school, for Pete’s sake.”

“It is a simple question, Brie,” she wouldn’t let go. “Do you like him?”

“Yes, I guess so,” I mumbled. I wasn’t ready to admit that my heart raced every time he touched me. That very moment he sat down on the bathroom floor next to me, wrapping Emma and I into his arms, holding on to both of us, my heart stopped beating for me. From that moment, it belonged to him. “Do you like Declan?” I wanted to get the topic away from me. “Is he the man you mentioned that ruined you for everyone else?”

She glanced away into the darkness but there was no need for an answer. It was written all over her face.

“Please be careful, Mar,” I begged her. “When did it come to Daphne being the only one reasonable among the three of us?”

“I agree, you two are doomed,” Daphne muttered. “Banging the Irish mob head and banging the Italian mob head.”

“And who are you banging?” Mar retorted dryly. “Don’t think Antonio is any less deadly.”

“I know. That orgasm he gave me just about killed me,” she murmured, smiling stupidly. But it worked, because all three of us burst into laughter.

“By the way, I have to tell you something,” Daphne added in a whisper. Marissa and I leaned our heads closer to her. “I glanced at Antonio’s email and he’s having Brianna’s background checked. He said he does that with all Mateo’s women.”

My heart squeezed in my chest at the notion that I was just like any other woman in Mateo’s life. It shouldn’t hurt but damn if it didn’t.

“He shouldn’t be able to find much,” Marissa muttered under her breath. “Besides, we have plan A and plan B.”

I wasn’t quite sure if those plans would save us, but I couldn’t dwell on those right now. If only for tonight, I would enjoy the fact that Mateo was here with me. He stayed and sat on the bathroom floor with me, caring for Emma and me. Tonight that was all that mattered to me.

“Let’s not stress about all that before it’s time,” I told them both. “If nothing else, let’s just enjoy tonight. Daphne will have her Antonio. Mar will have her Irish man,” I added playfully. “And I will have Mateo.”

Okay, maybe Mateo was right. The three of us did tend to get in trouble sometimes. Instead of worrying about our lives with these dangerous men, tonight we were focusing on getting laid.

“Okay, I’m going to go,” Marissa whispered. “I need you to distract those two.”

“Which two?” Daphne asked. “The guys outside or inside.”

“Outside.”

I rolled my eyes. “Fine, I’ll go get their dinner plates and ask them some questions,” I muttered under my breath. “Not sure what questions, but I’ll ask something. Daphne will help, right?” I looked at Daphne pointedly.

“Actually, I was ready to go in and get fucked by Antonio.”

“God, that is way too much information,” I told her as Marissa headed in the opposite way to get to her car.

Once we got to their car, I gently tapped on the window, smiling while Daphne kept glancing over her shoulder.

“Stop looking in her direction,” I whispered low, barely moving my lips.

The window rolled down and I gave both of them a smile. “Hey, you two. I was just going to grab your plates and ask if you wanted anything else. Coffee or dessert? Or more food?”
