“Brianna,” Marcus’ voice pulled me back from my thoughts.

“Yes?”

“Are you sure there isn't something I can do to help?” he offered. In truth, he already helped by giving me a job and ensuring I had health insurance for her. Although he didn’t know it.

“Thank you, Marcus; there is nothing,” I told him with a smile. His eyes softened, and I found that I liked him better like this. Just kind and without the need to be seductive. But the same second I thought that, he added, “You know, I’d do anything for you.”

And the moment and liking is gone.

“Thanks. I’m going to finish up your emails,” I changed the subject, “and then head out.”

“Have you heard anything else from Mateo?” he asked about his brother. From the get go, I got the sense the two brothers didn’t get along. I had no basis for saying it, except for my gut feeling.

Marcus had quite a lot of women working for him. Sometimes I wondered whether we were all needed but I refused to ask the question. I needed this job. The only lady I actually liked was Lavinia, who took me under her wing. Whenever Marcus called me into his office, if I didn’t make it out within five minutes, she’d find an excuse to search me out. She had no idea how much I appreciated it.

She pretty much told me the same thing that Daphne and Marissa warned me about. It was a bad idea to get involved with Marcus, and if I could avoid it, the better off I would be. I vowed to her that I had no intention of getting involved with him. It was she that told me as laid back as Marcus was that his brother, Mateo Agosti, was the opposite. He was intense, scary, and hot. Hearing it from her mouth, I couldn’t help but chuckle. It was like my mother calling someone a hottie.

Yeah, she’d never use that word. It was beneath her.

“Brianna,” Marcus called out to me again, and I realized I never answered his question.

“I’m sorry, Marcus,” I apologized quickly. I had to keep my focus. I got distracted with my thoughts too easily. I guess it was the result of being an only child and spending so much time alone. “No, there were no further emails from your brother besides the one asking for an appointment with the agent.”

“Wonderful,” he rubbed his hands pleased. “I still don’t know how you managed to book him and have them hold the property unsold, holding off on offers they have, for Mateo. I will forever be indebted to you.”

“No problem,” I responded, feeling slightly guilty for taking the credit as I left him in his office. “If I don’t see you before I leave, have a good evening.”

I actually got lucky with the property. The agent was a son of an old friend of my grandmother’s. He was happy to do this favor in memory of my grandmother.

The pictures of the home were stunning, with views that stretched for miles over the ocean. It was outside the city, in North Scituate. The large estate home was situated on twenty acres with incredible ocean views from almost every angle of the property. The entire estate was gated with amenities that made you believe you were staying at a luxury hotel.

There were people that could afford to buy properties like that without a second thought, and then there were people like me. Although, when my mother married my stepdad, I was very well taken care of financially. But still, something like this property was even out of my stepdad’s reach.

After he died, I’d thought my mom would want to reconnect. Sometimes I still hoped she’d reach out and ask to be part of mine and Emma’s lives. Or offer help with Emma’s medical expenses. I couldn’t understand why she despised me so much.

Taking a seat behind my desk, I skimmed through Marcus’ messages again. He had a few personal ones that I took care of. The man was a mess, setting up dates with multiple women on the same night.

Manwhore,I whispered in my head.

I opened both of them and confirmed hisappointmentswith both of them. I felt it was my duty to warn them, but hey, who was I?

I needed this job. I couldn’t afford a conscience right now. No sooner than I confirmed the appointment with Elizabeth, her reply came through. She must have been waiting on him. I opened the email, although my gut feeling was telling me not to.

I’m looking forward to another session with your Prince Albert.

Xoxo

Elizabeth

My mouth just about dropped onto the floor. What the heck? Marcus had a piercing… ummm, down there. Oh my gosh! It was something I’d never guess by just looking at him. He didn’t look brave enough to endure a piercing anywhere, not to mention down there. Raising my head, I threw a glance towards his office. He was swinging back and forth, looking bored out of his mind while reading a magazine. He had a playboy appearance about him but more like a sissy playboy. Not a tough, macho playboy that would endure a piercing in his penis.

Wait till I tell Daphne and Marissa,I thought smugly.

Another email popped out and I swore if it was another woman, I’d just call it a day.

Mateo Agosti.Ah, the brother!

I clicked the email open and read through it.
