She began to make those sounds again as she leaned back to give me full access, my hand at her waist holding her upright.

“Tell me you want this, Nadra. Tell me,” I growled.

“Oh gods,” she said in answer as I moved my hand down her body to find the dewy folds between her legs.

I massaged gently as she reached for me, taking me into her hands. My body roared to life, pushing to claim her, to finally leave my mark on her as my mate.

She rocked against my hand, her hips moving in a way that only a female could.

I pulled her upright, dragging my teeth along her neck as she continued to move against me, until she was whimpering and her breaths were scattered. Until her body went completely rigid. I stroked and stroked her until she came.

“Temir.” She said my name like it was a final prayer on her lips, and I swept her up again, carried her to the head of the bed, and laid her down, where I crawled on top of her, my length resting on her navel as she spread her legs wide and pushed up from the hips. “Please, Temir.”

“Say the words, Nadra. Tell me what you want.”

“I need you.” Her soft, throaty voice enraptured me.

I pressed the tip against her dripping core, and again, she lifted, searching for me. A hiss left my clenched teeth as I pushed into her inch by inch until I was deep inside her. She wrapped her feet around me, and I held her thighs as I began to thrust. Slowly at first, until the urgency to claim her, to mark her, overwhelmed me.

She dug her nails into my back, her gasps and whimpers sending shivers down my body as I moved in and out of her. My labored breathing grew sparser and she began to moan so loud I thought maybe the entire kingdom could hear her.

And I loved it.

Her body went tight again, spasming around my length, my own pressure beginning to build. The desire to mark her, brand her as mine was powerful. I wanted my scent all over her. I leaned down, breathing onto her collar bone as she cried out and I bit into her salty skin. She went limp below me and for a moment I paused to let her breathe, but then she moved, pulling me out of her and rolled over. She lifted her full ass into the air. I didn’t hesitate, I slammed myself deep within her again, feeling every inch of texture between us. I tangled my hands into her copper hair and pulled her back, forcing her to take all of me until we found a rhythm. Until she was screaming and I was barely holding on.

I needed it to last forever. I wanted to stay looking over that ledge, but as I plunged deep within my mate, I moved closer and closer to it until I erupted inside of her, sending pulse after heated pulse.

We collapsed onto the bed, and I pulled her naked body to my bare chest. I smothered her lips with mine and frantically claimed her mouth until again I was hard and needing more of her. She climbed on top of me and rode, swaying those hips and making those sounds until, again, we both climaxed. Eventually, sometime that night, we fell asleep as one.

We woke tangled in each other’s arms.

“Are you happy?” she whispered, her voice hoarse from the night of love making.

“I didn’t know this feeling existed,” I answered. “I’ve felt happiness in my life, at least I thought I had. But being here with you is like soaring through the sky. It’s like realizing life could be eternal, and for the first time, actually hoping it is. You make me laugh. At one point, I forgot how to do that. I love your fire and the way you command a room when you want. I’ve never had that ability. You’re everything I never knew I wanted, but so much more.” I pulled her closer to me, never feeling satisfied with the distance between us.

She trailed a fingertip up and down my antlers as she sighed. “I feel the same way. In the midst of chaos, I still feel so lucky.”

Later, after a long bath and a visit from a few staff members, we were freshly dressed and being led through the castle to the dining hall for breakfast. Ara and the king were not in attendance, but Rhogan was already halfway through a heaping pile of eggs. The draconian who was with the king in the study the night before was there, but he didn’t so much as lift his eyes to acknowledge us as we sat down. We were served generously, though we ate in near silence aside from the groaning from Rhogan as he tried different types of fruits and felt the need to express his undying gratitude as Wren laughed and added more and more to his plate.

The doors opened and Gaea walked into the room.

“Oh,” she said. “I guess I was expecting everyone to be in the kitchen.”

Greeve jumped out of his seat as she approached the table.

She looked up to him, reached for an apple and turned and walked back out of the room.

He sat again, barely touching the chair before he leapt back up and vanished out of the room.

“That was awkward,” Nadra said.

“Don’t get me started.” Wren shook her head as she looked to the ceiling.

“So, what’s the plan for the day?” she asked no one in particular.

Rhogan tossed a folded paper onto the table between us. “We’ve got another invitation from Murtad.”

Nadra rolled her eyes and huffed. “Not interested.”
