GHOST
Well I’ll be damned. He wants us to be roomies again. Just like old times.
RYKER
Glorified guard dogs! Unless we’re all sharing a bed…
ME
I’m going to tear your spine out of your ass and hang you with it.
RYKER
Love you too, big guy.
ME
Tomorrow. 11pm.
GHOST
Alright.
TORIN
Yep.
RYKER
Yes, Daddy.
GHOST
…
TORIN
You’ve got a death wish, Ryk.
Shaking my head and fighting the urge to laugh, I set my phone aside and turn onto my side so I can watch Wren until she awakens.
My idea just keeps sounding better and better.
It’s not like my brothers aren’t already crashing on my couch most nights, or spending half of their lives in my gym. This just makes sense.
They don’t have to sell their homes, they just have to claim bedrooms in mine. Between the four of us, and Hunter, Wren will be as safe as anyone can be.
I made the decision to drag her into my world, and that comes with the responsibility of shielding her from the fires of hell that will eventually rise to meet us all.
Especially now that I’ve got the green light to massacre Maksim Volkov.
CHAPTER 18
Wren
I’msurroundedbywarmth.By softness and silence. Out of those things, it’s the silence that finds me drifting beneath the heavy fog of sleep.
It’s been so long since I’ve slept somewhere quiet, without the sharp voices of children, of whispering women, and the low murmur of hushed conversations from all corners of a large communal sleeping room in a woman’s shelter.
