“Deacon?” Valencia called to him.
Raising his head, Deacon stared at his supposed sister. “I didn’t know until I saw your twin last week. But honestly, I helped to raise you. You are my sister.”
“Genuine feelings?” Liv spat at him. “That would be a first. As I happen to know that you never had a genuine emotion in your whole fucking life.”
Deacon still looked unruffled as he joked, “Aww, that really hurts myfakefeelings, Liv.”
She looked away as she wore a disgusted expression on her face. “It’s useless to even talk to you. You don’t even live in reality. You make it up as you go along.”
“He has to play it that way if he has done all the things you have said,” I agreed with her. “And what did you know about your mother, taking a little girl from her home?” I narrowed my eyes at Deacon. “For instance, did you know that she ran our nanny over and killed her? According to proof our private detective had, O did just that. Just so she could get hired as our nanny to take Valencia.”
“That’s damned cold blooded, Mr. FBI,” Romeo added. “Don’t you agree?”
Deacon ignored him and told me, “I had no idea she had done any of that.” He smiled as he raised his hand up. “I swear.”
Liv snorted as she scoffed. “Your word isn’t worth spit.”
His amused gaze moved back to Liv. “You’re still mad at me aren't you, sweet Livvy,” Deacon teased her.
Logan growled and stood from his chair as he stepped over to Deacon. “Be careful,” he warned.
We all stared at him now.
Ace or Logan hadn’t shown any real emotion all this time. Yet, you could see pure rage in his eyes.
“Yeah, you're still butt-hurt too, eh?” Deacon gave him that patented smirk.
Logan reached over and grabbed his suit lapels to lift him from the floor.
The two large Italian guards who stood on each side of Deacon, made no move on Logan.
I wondered what this was all about as Deacon’s feet actually left the floor. But I supposed that this whole familydespised Deacon and they had good reason from all that I had heard here today.
“So go ahead,” Deacon urged Logan. “Punch me out. I wrecked your plans. Made a mess of your life. You know I deserve it,” he pushed at him. “You were hearing wedding bells then you were facing a funeral instead.”
Logan’s cheek twitched as he looked like he would kill Deacon…Right here in front of us.
I stared at this man, Deacon. He either had a reason for his actions and words, or he used them for some purpose. To get some particular result. Or perhaps, he really didn’t care what they did. I had studied a few stealthy criminals in the past as CSI was my favorite hobby and this guy was a conundrum. Here, he was in dangerous territory. In chains no less. Surrounded by people he had maligned, threatened and attacked in the past. Yet, he provoked them every chance he got while acting cool and amused even. However, I imagine just under the surface, a monster lurked. Upon this thought, I looked over at my sister. Was she one as well? Was it too late for her? Like what did she witness in her life? O had murdered people. Did she do it in front of my sister? Had she raised Valencia in a psychopathic environment?
“Logan,” Liv whispered. “He cannot hurt us anymore. I hate him too, but the sooner he is locked up the better.” She glared at Deacon. “But maybe he won’t be locked up? He will be six feet under. He did cross the mafia, so that usually means curtains. He’ll get what he deserves.”
“No!” Valencia exclaimed in a panic. “You all won’t kill him, will you?”
I slowly shook my head. This wasn’t going to end well. My hope to reunite with my twin would probably not happen. Thereseemed to be too much history and lies to put a wall between us. Too much for us to climb over.
“You thought we were killers already,” Jarret reminded Valencia. “So why not?”
She looked afraid and confused. “B-but…”
“But what, my dear?” Stephano spoke up. “He tried to kill my son Giovanni and his woman, Glory. My loyal guards were attacked as well.” He motioned to the large men. “Tito and Rocky. They are my nephews, you see? Zia’s boys…Familia. He sent people aftermyfamily.” His voice went low as he gritted his teeth.
Logan slowly set him back down on his feet.
“You really got strong after you lost that leg, didn’t you?” Deacon asked Logan as he snickered. “Talk about upper body strength.”
We all couldn’t help but look at Logan again. No one here would have ever known that he had a prosthetic leg.
Logan turned away, then he spun back around and punched Deacon on the jaw.
