Fate nodded at me. “Well good, cuz like if it was a public event, tickets are already sold out and your name is on the marque.”

“Wow, have you been paying attention to my career all these years or what, Fate?”

He rolled his eyes. “Don’t get all full of yourself there, Lib. I watch a lot of TV sports.” He grinned at me.

“You cannot do this, Liberty,” Belle said as she had quit ignoring me finally.

“It’s already a done deal, Belle,” I told her. “It’s just a fight. I do it almost weekly or I used to. It will be okay.”

Fate kept shaking his head.

“And ignore him.” I tilted my head toward Fate. “He’s our over-dramatic brother.” I chuckled.

“Ha-ha,” Fate said. “Just don’t come crying to me when The Claw is done rearranging your face.”

“Is it gonna be that bad?” Scarlet finally spoke up as she looked worried.

Belle looked over at Redemption and nodded. “Is it? I mean the part about Talon really hurting Liberty?”

Redemption set his glass down. “I’ve seen Talon fight just recently in fact. Him and Prophet had a helluva bout. It was badass in fact. Now Prophet is not a professional fighter, but he rides bulls and wrestles steers down for branding, so he did really well. He still got knocked out though in the end.” He paused and looked over at me. “Yeah, Talon can hurt a man, but Liberty is an experienced fighter. He’ll be okay. I mean I’m sure Talon isn’t out to kill him.”

“You were standing right there, Redemption. You didn’t notice how angry Talon looked?” Belle asked him.

“Yeah, I did.” Redemption shook his head in disgust. “And as weallknow, Liberty has a knack for pissing people off on the regular. So, Talon was a bit pissed, I admit. But really Belle, they are used to fighting. Liberty will get pretty banged up and he might even get knocked out, but he’ll survive it.”

I scoffed and raised my ice tea glass at him. “Wow, it’s good to know you’ve got faith in me, Red.” I felt a bit betrayed by both of my brothers and if anything…they just made me more determined to kick Talon’s teeth right the fuck up into his throat.

Chapter Ten:Flights And Fights

Belle

At first, all I wanted to do was hide. I didn’t want to face Liberty after what just happened in the pantry. I kept trying to forget about that kiss…the one I initiated. What the fuck had I been thinking? I just felt overwhelmed by his insistence to protect me and get an apology for me. I guess that was it? I still wasn’t sure.

I had to find some way to stop this fight from happening though. Trouble was…Liberty wasn’t listening to me. Well, there was nothing new about that, was there? Talk about stubborn. I tried to get Redemption and Fate to help, but they practically refused to try and stop it. And Jarret? Their dad…wow, he wasn’t bothered by it either. Fucking men and their fights.

Scarlet, who had been sitting next me, patted my hand. “You okay, Belle?”

I shook my head. “No, I’m not. Have you been listening to all this bull shit?”

Nodding, she replied, “I have. But as you should know already, if someone is bound and determined to do something, you can’t really stop them.”

I slowly nodded my head. “So what am I supposed to do?”

Scarlet shrugged her shoulders then said, “Be there to take care of him.”

I paused to stare at her. “What?”

“Look Belle, I know that you and him claim to not get along, but I think you know better. Be there for him when he needs help healing up after the fight.”

I patted her hand now and decided she was right. They weren’t going to listen to me about this fight, so all I could do was be there. I pushed my chair back and picked up my plate. Heading to the kitchen, I was totally distracted by all the crap going on in my head, then I heard bits and pieces of the conversations along the large dining table.

“That’s what I heard. Talon and Liberty are going to fight tonight.”

“Oh wow, really?”

As I kept moving, I heard other voices, “Supposedly, Talon called her a bunch of names and…”

I bumped into someone. After I stepped back a bit, I said, “I am so sorry.”
