“Hey, brother.”

Glancing up, I saw Liberty. “Hey, man.”

“Why do you look so...lost?” he asked.

“Nah,” I tried to blow it off. “I’m fine.”

“You look like they fired the Supreme Court.”

I chuckled. “No, and they can’t do that.”

“Well then, what is it? And don’t try totrialme with double-speak. No one knows you better than I do.”

In this, he was correct. His twin was Fate, but he and I were very close.

“Is it this girl?” Liberty asked.

I paused and replied, “What girl?”

He laughed. “You are kidding right? What girl? The one who has been at your side for more than a month, Justice!”

I shook my head at him.

“If you were on the stand,” he added. “I would make mincemeat of your ass.”

He loved using my favorite subject in arguments with me. This wasn’t an argument though, he knew I liked this woman. “Yeah,” I admitted.

“Yeah, I would win the case over you?” He smirked. “Or yeah, it’s the girl?”

“Both,” I replied as I raised a brow at him.

“Ohhh…” He grinned at me.

“Yes, so…” I shrugged.

“So? You really like her.Sooo, have you made a move on her?”

I rolled my eyes at him. “Not really.”

“What’s the problem? Usually, when you are interested in a woman, you move pretty quick.”

“Yeah, when I just wanna tap it,” I replied with a sigh. “But this is different.”

“Oh, yeah? Like as in,seriousdifferent?”

I paused as I realized that was exactly it. I was serious about Scarlet. As in, I wanted her for myself...Permanently.

“Wow…” Liberty whistled. “So, big brother wants a white picket fence?”

I looked up at him. “Maybe?”

“Nah man, this ain’t no maybe. You want this girl for more than a night.”

I looked away. “Probably won’t happen.”

“Why not? Damn, look at you. Almost as good looking as me.” He chuckled. “A lawyer, well financed while strutting around in thousand dollar power suits and shit?”

I stared at him and laughed. “Well, if I’m such a prize, why can’t I get anywhere with her?”
