Prophet scoffed. “If you say so, but I got my ass handed to me, just the same.”

Sitting next to him, Jewel rolled her eyes as she still felt disgusted about that whole thing.

“Well, I almost regretted it.”

We all turned our heads to look at Talon as he sat a few chairs down.

“Redemption is right,” Talon said. “You had me dead to rights, Prophet. Like I told you at the time, you are hands down, the best fighter I’d ever faced. I was forced to use that move on your neck, because I seriously thought you might kill me!” He laughed then he looked over at Liberty. “Redemption is 100 percent right. One on one, he could probably beat any of your buddies, Liberty.” He gave my brother a nod.

“Well, damn,” Liberty muttered as he looked impressed.

“Nah, I was full of rage when I fought him.” Prophet shook his head. “I wouldn't be the same fighter today. Just luck on my part.”

Jewel smiled and took his hand as she explained her take on it, “He had a lot on his plate at the time. I never blamed him.” She turned her head to scowl at Redemption.

He smiled at her as he shook his head.

“Yep, it’s that humble cowboy shit again,” Redemption commented as he chucked.

I shook my head and cut up the slice of pot roast on my plate. “There’s more to life than fights, Lib.”

“Not right now, there isn’t,” he replied as he met my gaze.

I hoped he wasn’t about to blow our plan here. I glared at him.

“With this war and all,” he added as he raised his brows at me. “We don’t even know where this Deacon asshole is right now. So until he is six feet under, I’m ready to fight.”

“I have to agree with that.” I nodded at him as I relaxed a bit, realizing he did not intend to out us at all. Until Deacon was dead and gone, we couldn’t even go back home. Seemed like we had been gone a year and it had only been about six weeks. In a fight, I could hold my own and I could use any number of weapons. I might need those skills tomorrow in any case. There was no telling who we would come up against. Now that I thought about it, that was a huge problem in itself.

Who was this asshole holding Belle? I glanced over at Scarlet. Did she know who had done it? She had said she didn’t, but she probably knew more than she thought. After all, she had lived in Ramton for most of her life. I needed to talk to her about it. I paused. What if it was one of Deacon’s and O’s drug suppliers who had done this. Shit, I never thought of that. Also, I needed to ask her about exactly what they told her mother. What were the instructions to trade Belle for the money?

We would be walking into God knows what tomorrow and there would only be Liberty and I facing off how many? It was literally a crap shoot and I never liked those, the person with less ammunition always lost. So if there were more than five or so, all with weapons, we might lose for sure. Now I wondered about this whole plan. If we didn’t tell anyone here about this and we got attacked by too many, we might not walk out of there alive. This included Scarlet. I looked over at her sitting next to me.

She had been watching me closely. “What’s wrong, Justice?” she asked softly.

“I will talk to you about it after dinner ok?”

Nodding, she looked down at her plate.

“Come on,” I urged. “You’d better eat.”

She shrugged. “Not really hungry right now.”

“You need a good meal and some sleep. Tomorrow will be tough.”

Nodding, she knew what I meant. “I’ll try.” She forked up some mashed potatoes and took a bite.

I looked over at Liberty who sat on the other side of me.

He was staring back at me.

It felt like he knew what I’d been thinking, or he’d thought of the same thing. After he mentioned Deacon, I had new doubts about this whole thing. Deacon was more than clever, he had proven that over and over. What if he actually had set this whole thing up? To get one or more of us out in the open. He knew Scarlet was more than likely still with us. Maybe this wasn’t just a matter of her dad owing drug money.

Now, I’d lost my appetite. My gut told me we needed to let Talon and Redemption in on this. But would I be able to sway Scarlet about that? The more I thought about this the more I believed we would be idiots to go into this alone. Just like I’d told Scarlet she wasn’t alone anymore. Maybe we shouldn’t be either. Like my dad had told us a few times over the years, ‘Always rely on your brothers, your family, because when the chips are down, they are the only people you can really count on.’
