“I never told you that I was going to do that.” She stared at me.

“I know.”

“Give the man some credit, Scarlet,” Liberty told her. “He figured it out, then I saw him here and I figured it out.”

Gazing around, she looked nervous. “Well, let’s go somewhere else, before any of these guys figure it out.” Turning, she headed back towards the house.

We both followed her.

“You really think that will work?” I muttered to Liberty. “The two man thing?”

“Why not?” he replied. “I overheard them saying that anyone leaving has to have at least a pair of guards.”

“If Redemption or Dad catch wind of this, one of them will insist on coming. I mean look at what happened to Prophet’s dad,” I voiced my doubts. “And he had four men with him.”

“We’ll see,” he whispered back. “First, we need to parley with your woman and find out what we will be up against.”

“My woman?”

Liberty shoved my shoulder. “Will you quit with the denial already? You’re in love with this Scarlet, so just face it and let’s get on with this, ok?”

“Since when do you run my life?” I countered.

He chuckled. “I’m just returning the favor, my man.”

I kept shaking my head. Liberty was a piece of work and I couldn’t wait till he fell for a woman. When he did, I would return thissupposedfavor with pleasure.

“Besides,” he added. “You needed to help her and I figured out a way to do that. You should be really pleased with me right about now.”

“Yeah, yeah,” I muttered.

We both went in after Scarlet did. We paused and looked around.

She waved at us as she stood at the patio door, then she went outside.

Following, we went to a far table at the edge of the outdoor patio that Connor House had offered to their guests. Now, we just sat outside at the tables every once in a while to get out of the house itself since we were mostly trapped here for our own safety.

We all sat down.

Scarlet leaned forward in her chair and folded her hands on the table. “So when you take me into town, just drop me off at my apartment.”

We both stared at her.

Liberty opened his mouth to speak.

“No,” I stated as I stared at her.

Scarlet looked into my eyes. “I can’t get you involved.”

“Yes, you said that a few times already and as my loony brother pointed out to us both, it is too late. I am involved.”

Liberty was nodding his head then he seemed to hear the loony part and he paused at the insult.

I raised my hand to keep him quiet as I continued, “Just tell us all of it. It will be better for our chances if we know what is really going on. And no, we are not just dropping you off anywhere.” Leaning across the table, I grabbed her hand and squeezed it. “Scarlet, I am in this. I care a lot about you. Too much in fact. So, if you don’t want me stalking you everywhere you go here, then you just need to come out with this. I won’t lose you, so no walking away from me, ok?”
